  1. 5 seems extreme but I can believe it. My size down 3s are arguably too big and I do not mind a roomier fit.

I would be careful though of trying to replicate the fit of NS by sizing down so much. You may end up in the same place with proportions looking off. The problem is, to get the room in the thighs and stride, you need to take the room in the seat and waist that comes with it.

  2. Interesting you say do not size down more than 2. I got My Rescues in 31, and probably could have/should have done a 30. I do not own any other jeans that are not 34 (except for Bears x Eternal that are 32, but were tagged 2 down, and fit too small on me). I have not worn size 31 jeans since high school.

If you are thinking APC, you ought to be able to find somewhere to try them on, so just do that.

  3. It was on the other SF:

"My suggestion still stands. Hem is slightly bigger than what you may be looking for, but if you are big you are big, and can't wear skinny hemmed jeans and still look proportional. I was looking for the exact same thing. Had plenty of fuller cut work-wear jeans to wear with Red Wing's and such, but wanted a pair of slimmer ones to wear with Brando Lace's and slimmer shoes (brogues) or sneakers. As I said, I thought the Rescue would not work, and did not even try them on the first time I went to the store. When I went back to return the NS's I looked ridiculous in I gave them a shot and they are doing exactly what I want them for, and what sounds like you want.

Don't go by Rescue pics online, most people are wearing them very oversized. And just comparing measurements is tough too, as all jeans fit different.

Coles Notes: You really need to give the Rescue a try. Just trust me."

  4. Double Post, WTF is wrong with this site. It has been years and stuff still does not fit the screen right, posts show up in the tools row, etc...and I can hardly post.

  5. question: how well do new standards do for guys with large thighs and buttocks?

i'm 32in waist, 24.5in thighs in circumference. i'm not sure if they'll stretch to accommodate me. otherwise, i might look into some rescues.

If you have bigger thighs, get the Rescues. They will fit better, look better. They will look more like NS on you than NS would- I am saying a skinny dude in NS and a bigger dude in Rescue will look more similar. I have written about this before, maybe search my user name and "rescue". But big thighs and such a taper makes proportions look wrong.

  6. EDC related, Larimer County Sheriff James Alderden is outraged by the overturn of CCing, including tasers and pepper spray over 1 ounce. A very good article about how 'weapon free' zones invite criminals, and only hurts law-abiding citizens.

“If anyone with one of my permits gets arrested for concealed carry at CSU, I will refuse to book that person into my jail. Furthermore, I will show up at court and testify on that person’s behalf, and I will do whatever I can to discourage a conviction. I will not be a party to this very poor decision.â€

Welcome to all of Canada. Can not carry a weapon at all for self defense purposes.

  7. Edmond, what is that purple Samurai sticker that says something along the lines of "HLAT Old Domestic Car Only". Sammy dude seems to have one too. I got one of these, I am not sure from where. Obviously it is a Samurai thing, but what is the deal?

  8. keep it L shaped and use the non bottle opening side as leverage? that's what I do at least.

OK, I now I am a bit slow. What you describe is what is natural to me to try, BUT, the key hinges the wrong way for this, no? The way you would push on the other side collapses the whole thing (the way I am picturing it).

  9. Nice collection. I like the variety.
Damn, it looks like you took off some of the top epidermis. You might have to take that in to a leather restorer.

But nice collection anyhow. Some info on the collection?

OK, I do not know if you are being sarcastic re the variety, I would guess so, seeing as 2 are very similar, and 4 are the same as each other.

I have 2 pairs of Frye Brando Laces (Tan and Black). I got them 2 for one, already 50% off, and I am not too happy with the quality, discussed on SF (eyelets jagged, rip in leather liner, messed up and cracked top sole).

One pair are RW 8166, another are Featherstone leather GTs, Sorel Pac Boots, and 2 pairs of Sperry. Ohh, and no name desert boots and a pair of Clark boots that ripped on that middle seam, and the store I got them from would not give me a new pair, but kind of fixed them.

  10. Its not so much the colour, that comes off with some lexol conditioner, or any liquid, it is the bubbling where the leather has been saturated.

The whole area, out to the ridges was white when I first noticed, I think they fell over and sat in their own puddle, but I have no evidence of this. The next day, after cleaning and moisturizing, the outline was white again, now, the last couple of days, even after wiping and cleaning, they end up like this.

  11. I asked a question in this thread, or one of the Red Wing threads, asking what particularly makes the GT waterproof as compared with regular boots (they advertise them as waterproof) The problem I describe below has scared me from wearing them any more this winter, as though not ruined, my other RW's are not looking good right now:

You know that wet, then dries white (I assume from Salt, but we do not really use salt too much here, too cold) and kinda a lumpy outline thing that happens to boots? Usually around the soles. For whatever reason, I got a huge stain and raised and white outline on my heal of a pair of my Red Wings (lifestyle). I can not figure out where it is coming from. Anyhow, ideas on how to treat?

  12. The 1964 is the model with the D rings and lining similar to the Caribou pictured above the "retro" model. I have never really figured out the main difference.

I do like the your model though, if still lined well, as you could wear them all day it would appear. I like the lacing more. Do you know an exact model? I can not find on the Sorel site.

  13. can I please have more pics or info on the above cut? I've been going for something like this but like HEWSINATOR said, I must not be asserting myself as needed lol because they keep cutting too much off the top!

Take in that exact picture. IDK why, but me, and I assume others view it is as nerdy or something to bring in a pic, but there is a reason for the saying a picture is worth a thousand words.

  14. Something most people are not when they get a haircut is assertive. You need to be clear what you want, and stop them and confirm during the cut. If they are taking more off than you like, stop them.
