I looked around but couldn't find any; I've only experience with a large MOQ for my shirts. Sewing factories in LA might have some on hand, but I don't know if they'll sell you a small amount. Worth a shot though.

OK, thanks for the answer. I'll keep on looking then.

  2. Any idea where nice indigo chambray fabric with selvage (likely Japanese), by the yard, might be sourced? I'm talking about the deep indigo stuff, as used by Mr. Freedom (didn't answer inquiries); the kind inspired by old USN shirts, and generally chambray workshirts ubiquitous in the 50's.  I've been looking for a while; no dice. All the big hobby sites (fabric.com , etc) seem to think anything lightweight and blue qualifies as chambray, and Pacific Blue seems to have run out of the really neat, vintage-looking ones (and there's often a minimum order I can't contemplate). Looking to make one shirt (so very small quantity needed), but probably order more yardage if the fabric is right, for future projects.

  3. Great story!! My first pair of 501s was bought in the early '80s, so definitely not the same quality denim as a mid-'60s model, or even a post-"71/pre-''79 model for that matter. But compared to pretty much anything else available at the time, these were still like scoring gold!  In the world of jeans, Levi's (501s actually) were something special, and I remember detailing my first pair with the same awe, and anticipation for what it would become once faded. Unfortunately, that era ended abruptly in 1984; I still remember the shock (and disappointment) when shopping for jeans, and discovering that the black bar tacks were gone, the back pockets moved up, and -most horrifying- the selvage was gone as well. My next pair of brand new Levi's would only come 15 years later in the form of a pair of LVCs. In the meantime, flea markets provided used redlines (even Big Es if you were lucky) for $5 to $20, so all was not lost...

  4. I WORKED FOR APC IN PARIS FROM 1995 TO 1998, AND USED TO PICK UP THE LIMITED EDITION POSTERS IN THE 3 SHOPS AT THE END OF EACH COLLECTION (EACH SHOP HAD MAX 2 POSTERS). I KNOW VERY FEW WERE MADE, BECAUSE IT WAS ALWAYS VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND AN AVAILABLE REPLACEMENT WHENEVER ONE WAS DAMAGED. THE POSTERS WERE TAKEN DOWN AT THE END OF EACH COLLECTION SEASON, AND DESTROYED. I TOOK SOME OF THESE POSTERS BEFORE THEY MADE IT TO THE CAN, AND NOW I'M THINKING OF MAYBE SELLING THEM. ANYBODY INTERESTED?

  5. SPEAKING OF CUSTOM VANS, CHECK OUT THE PAIR I SOLD ON EBAY LAST WEEK. I THINK THEY ARE A GOOD ILLUSTRATION OF HOW FAR YOU COULD GO IN CUSTOMIZING...

  6. ACTUALLY, AT FIRST I WANTED TO TRADE THEM IN BUT THE SHOP HAD NO OTHER 1955'S. THIS IS THE MODEL I WANT IN MY SIZE, SO EITHER I FIND SOMEONE TO TRADE WITH; OR, IF I CAN BUY OUTRIGHT, I WILL KEEP THEM AND MAYBE WAIT TILL I GROW OLDER AND FATTEN UP, OR JUST EBAY'EM IN A COUPLE YEARS, WHEN THEY BECOME MORE INTERESTING IN PRICE. T6HANKS FOR THE ADVICE, THOUGH. CHRIS

  7. THEY ACTUALLY MEASURE UP AT 39X37. IF PUT IN HOT WATER, THEY WILL EVENTUALLY GO DOWN TO 37X34, MORE OR LESS. WASHING AT REGULAR MACHINE COLORED ITEMS TEMPS, THEY WOULD SHRINK LESS. I USUALLY WEAR 36X38 IN 501'S, 35 LONG IN A.P.C.'S (WASHED LUKEWARM), OR 34 IN SHRINK-TO-FIT LEE'S. THANKS!

  8. I'VE JUST BOUGHT A PAIR OF LVC 1955 501'S IN UNWASHED CONDITION IN A 38X38, AND REALIZED THEY WOULD BE TOO BIG FOR ME. THE SHOP I BOUGHT THEM FROM HAS NO OTHER, SO I CAN'T TRADE THEM IN. DOES ANYONE HAVE A PAIR OF 36X38 OR 36X40 THEY WANT TO TRADE FOR A LARGER PAIR? THE TAGS ARE THERE, AND IT'S FAULTLESS (THE POCKETS ARE NOT TOO CLOSE TOGETHER, SO THE BUTT LOOKS GOOD), THE DENIM AND ALL DETAILS ARE BEAUTIFUL, BUT EVEN SHRUNK TO THE MAX, IT'LL STILL BE LOOSE ON ME. LEE 101 B'S IN A 34X33 TAG WOULD BE ACCEPTABLE, TOO.
