  1. No sole shot. Which is surprising since Alden Carmel typically shows the entirety of the shoe. No price either. Call J. Gilbert for that. Has to be $400-450. That shoe is effin sharp. If I wasn't holding out to see some other things first, I'd be on the phone.

  3. My eagerness to see The Watchmen is tamped down somewhat by Zack Snyder being involved. Though I do admit the trailer kills. I wish Alan Moore would get his head out of his ass, the Kabbala, and kiddie porn, and get in touch with his anarchic side once again.

At one time David Fincher was planning to do Frank Miller's "Hard Boiled"? That's dead. That's one of the biggest problems with Hollywood: A director will spend years planning, pitching, re-writing, scheming, and at some point the joy just gets stomped out of you.

  4. The folds/ripples that these cordos take on is amazing - I subscribe to the notion that shoes like these look better torn up & broken down. I bought the shoe trees & wax, but don't use them at all. Bad?
Nope, not bad. Every pic of those boots I've ever seen that made an impression have all had a "broken down" look. They're built like an armored car; you feel obligated to beat them up. I personally use trees, but have only subjected them to polish once in the nearly two years I've had them. I just wipe them down after every wear and buff the shit out of 'em. I think I may alter my m.o. from here on out, and only tree them when I'm not planning on wearing them for a while.
  5. All I ask is that one's braces not be those that clip to the waist. I can't get past those. I haven't tried braces with jeans, but you gents pull it off nicely, I must say. I do wear them with corduroy or moleskin pants, and work pants from 45rpm. I saw Social D perform, and Mike Ness had those bad boys hanging under his Dickie-type work shirt and pants. Straight-up punk.

  6. Well, first, it'll be a different boot since the Alden store on Madison won't have the modified last. To my knowledge, the closest they carry is the 4065, which is similar, but in a captoe (and has eyelets all the way up). I assume you're looking for a plain toe.

Right you are about the captoe. No love for captoe shoes. I'll probably end up springing for the boot at Alden/Carmel, which has the nifty commando sole. After I see the black Indys, of course.

  7. "Those Gokey, 1905s and Alden Navy Boots are great! I've gotta get me some of the Navy boots. I think I'll ask Ralph."

Greg, is Alden on Mad. Ave., going to be stocking them? You probably know that Alden/Carmel carries a similar boot w/commando sole. I'm thinking, I'd prefer eyelets all the way up the shank rather than the four hooks on the Alden/Carmel.

  8. A question for Tom or anyone else: In shell cordovan, seems to be that #8 color is readily available, but not whiskey and cigar, or ravello, as Tom pointed out. Is this because #8 just doesn't move (I have shell chukkas in #8 which I love), or is there another reason, something to do with production, perhaps?
