  1. Does anyone know if Barney's New York warehouse still has Levi's Capital E collection for sale, or if it's all sold out (or a poor selection is left)? I would have to come all the way up from South Jersey to find out, and they don't have a phone number to call. Any help would be muchly appreciated. Please PM me if you know. If you can find a direct line in that works, please also let me know - but I cannot find one that works. All I find is an answering machine. I really would love to get some 32" capital e rigid heshers, but I'm afraid of going all the way to New York to wind up empty handed.

I don't understand when people talk about chain stitching. I thought chain stitching was only two threads, and it looks the same on both sides. However, I see on some of my clothes one side very plain, and the other side very complicated, like shown here. I thought chain stitching was only like illustrated on this page:

I do not understand how that works or even what it is called, but they are not the same kind of stitches I would doubt. Thanks for any replies... hoping to get one....

  3. I have a hole that just formed on my knee and one on my wallet pocket that has been there for a while. I was wondering what people do to stop these from taking over. I dared to ask on Yahoo! Answers a while ago, but no one replied there. :0

I would like to still put my wallet in my back right pocket even though there is a hole there already. I was wondering if there is any way to patch the whole pocket so that sitting on abrasive surfaces will stop wearing down my wallet but still show the fade from the wallet itself. If anyone wants pictures I can get them, but I hope you know what I'm talking about. I'm really, really looking forward to a response. Thanks anyone and everyone~

  4. Sorry for not replying sooner! I've been very busy with the holiday season. I actually have to buy Tandy Leather's 12 gage rivets (hope I'm saying this right) and burrs. The 9 gage are too big to use everywhere, and I think also as hidden rivets on the back pockets, but that's all subject to testing. The only problem is I'm not sure how to get a logo onto them without spending hundreds of dollars. I know you can buy tools gunsmiths use to emboss and I could just put a simple letter on the back and front of the rivets, but I'm not really sure what would be best.

I don't have any pictures because there's no product, but I'm constantly working on designing my own jean line, branding and all. It's just a fun side hobby - I'm getting the required pieces by their determined difficulty to acquire. It's really fun to draw up different back pocket designs. I'm considering the denim and thread the easy part. ;]

What I want the most are the WWII laurel buttons like they have on repro and original Levi's. They make things similar to them out there, but they all have some stupid number of stars, like 3 or 5, with no good reason for it.

  5. I tried asking this in the small questions thread a while ago, but it got buried quick.

Where can you buy rivets for jeans? Online is OK, US stores is also OK.

I'm not talking about crap. I mean, maybe some Wal-Marts and Joanne Fabrics have something other than crap, but mine don't. I'm looking something with a little more than hollow-back rivets and with a modest or at least inoffensive collection to choose from.

...what are these things called, anyway?

This is the best I can get for copper rivets that don't look incredibly cheap (ex: a hollow insert vs solid back, practically all store-bought jeans I see have solid backs instead of holes through the pin).

ANY input would be great. I have tried contacting one company (I believe it was Scovill) about ordering from them but they never e-mailed me back.

I'm not talking about crap. I mean, maybe Wal-Mart has something other than crap, but I'm looking for something at least as "quality" as the cheapo Levi's rivet-button they sell. ...what are these things called, anyway?

  7. Yes. Any fabric that creates the edge itself is technically self-edge, or selvedge/selvage (AFAIK). That's not what you'll find in the marketplace, though. It might be due to how - if you look at the fabric in the picture above - the left piece is held together by thread, which could be argued is not part of the original fabric. I'd consider that half-selvage. That's not to say it's inferior.

If I'm wrong, someone correct me please. :D

  8. I have a pair of Levi's, brand new with tags, that were sitting in storage somewhere in my house. I recently found them but I have no idea why I bought them - they are very, very light blue, stonewashed/bleached/whatever. I really, really doubt I can return them, as it has been months, and I don't have the receipt. I was wondering if I could wash them with blue jean dye (indigo, synthesized or not) to get "dry" jeans.

  9. What does that last post and the one before my previous one have to do with this topic? Sorry if I'm missing something.

Anyway, I might actually fetch a pair. It's sounding more and more tempting, even at $60.

  10. Darn it, I live in New Jersey, but all three of those stores are at least an hour away. That's a good amount of gas. If I was gonna pick up several pairs I'd go in a heartbeat, but I can wait for that.

  11. Thanks very much, both to Ringring and Witts. To Witts, though, I don't speak or read Japanese, nor does that page show the back of the top rivet button. From what I remember, there would be a "555" for the factory in SF. I'll definitely look into those other sites tomorrow and e-mail some people.

  12. I'm looking for LVC 1947 deadstock ("dry", unwashed) 501's. All of the Levi's (Lees and Chaps as well) I wear are 32x32, so I'm assuming I should get them in 34x35, but I'll definitely get my measurements straight before buying a pair.

The only problem is I don't know where I can find these jeans at a reasonable price, preferrably ones made in San Francisco, as I've heard quality varies elsewhere. I'd call up the closest Levi's store but I'm afraid they'll only carry ones that weren't made in SF. Perhaps I'm wrong about this.

How much should I expect to pay for them, and does anyone know where I could get a pair? I looked on eBay, but the only source with my size is about $235 (including shipping). I've read in these forums that the in-store price is $154, so I feel like this is a ripoff, but I have seen LVC 1947 deadstocks go for $225 (yet also at half that price).

Thanks for any help in advance.

  13. I've been reading a bunch of posts here, and from what I can gather, the 47 501's are better than the 44 501's. Levi's vintage clothing site (vintage.levi.com) calls 47's the "quintessential" 501. What is it? Is the printed arcuate on the back of the 44's inferior to stitching? Do 47 501's have concealed rivets (the site doesn't say they do)? I've read the cut's changed and I know the arcuate was painted, but I can't place anything else.

Also, how much shrinkage should I expect with jeans like these? Thanks.
