    INSiDEAMiND

With the definition of the word "DJ" continually expanding, InsideAmind (Vision & Steptone) emerges from Toronto as a two man scratch band, further stretching artistic boundaries by performing live original compositions with vinyl. The "scratch musicians", as they call themselves, bring forth a unique angle to what a group of DJs/Producers armed with instruments called turntables can create. By developing outside the often limiting battle oriented mind frame that scratching is too often associated with, the crew is bringing new life to this ever evolving art form.

InsideAmind was recently voted as one of the top 10 Bands to look for in 2006 by Toronto’s EYE Magazine.

    Moonstarr

Original from Toronto and now residing in Montreal, Moonstarr is world famous for his body thumpin, neck snappin beats. Hot of the release of his self titled remix album, featuring such artists as Jazzanova, Ivana Santilli, Recloose and more, Moonstarr will definitely get your head twisted.

    Colin Fisher

With his involvement in the math-jazz trio Sing That Yell That Spell, I HAVE EATEN THE CITY and in the local improv scene, there is no doubt that Colin Fisher is one of the best musicians in Ontario. An unfairly skilled saxophonist and guitar player, Fisher's hands dart around his instruments with amazing precision and creativity, showing off the Stratford, Ont.,-based virtuoso's obviously varied musical tastes. Fisher has a way with strange chord shapes and menacing loops that fold into one another to make slightly creepy and altogether exceptional jazz compositions. Fisher will play any club that will have him and will help out any band that needs him, proving to be a truly versatile musician who is only happy when an instrument is in his hands.

    Veteran

As one of Canada’s best Turntable musicians, Veteran weaves in and out of beautiful sound scapes and beats using the turntable as his musical instrument. His sets have been known to put mystical spells on people through his smooth hand at turntable manipulation. He has a few surprises in store for Palette 3 so be prepared.

Electronic, EMO, ambient, Jazz, indi, jungle and the many other styles out in the world.

This is not a competition this should be about education.

    Cheers. :)

  4. Discover the Art Of DJing

The mandate of Off Centre DJ School is simple: have fun with records! We strive to find new ways to teach and creatively express ourselves by playing with sound. At OC we emphasize the roots of DJ culture: vinyl, two turntables, and a mixer. By focussing on the turntable as an instrument, creating music with turntables can take on a completely different shape. While the art of DJing and Scratching has often been clouded by gimmicks, competition and commercialism, we bring to the learning environment the school of thought that the DJ is a musician playing an instrument called the turntable.

  8. Here's a review of a past showcase

4 Minds Are Better Than 1...

If you stepped INSIDEaMIND last Friday at Stone Lounge the difference between the DJ as a record slinger and the DJ as an artist is clear.

Well, while upstairs at Revival Grand Master Melle Mel helped celebrate the history and roots of a beautiful culture called hip hop, downstairs DJ's Vision, Steptone, NV, and The Vinyl Killer (Live Visuals by Colour Outside the Lines) offered a glimpse of the future. Playing the instrument referred to by many as the backbone of hip hop, these 4 turntable musicians weaved together a vinyl orchestration that delved into the crackling warmth of original breakbeats and proceeded to chop, splice, blend, and scratch layer upon layer of fluctuating rhythms and soulful electronics. With each talented member adding his own unique flavour to the equation, they composed a seamless flow of music arranged with dips, dives, builds and break downs that had the packed crowd hovered around the stage attempting to discern who's fingers the sounds were sliding from. With a brief encore and "round the circle" cuts to top the show it was clear to see that artists on this night took the shape of 4 DJ's calling themselves INSIDEaMIND. Great things expected from these Toronto innovaters.
