  1. I say hit some of the atlantic coast towns in France as you will be sure to have a great time.

La Rochelle which has the biggest number of sunlight hours per year in all of France would be my number one suggestion.

Beautiful historical city, great people who love to party, nice beaches etc.

You could also check out the islands which are right outside the city but they are bit flooded with tourists during the summer ( Ré connected by bridge to La Rochelle and Oleron 45 minutes down south ). The Isle d'Aix is really small and a great place to chill for a day.

Then you could go to Bordeaux

there's also the famous beach cities like Biarritz ( the Nice city equivalent on the atlantic coast ).

  2. spent saturday afternoon riding my trail bike around some various nature paths in and outside the city.

Also went scoping out this piece of night lit art installation in hopes of disfiguring it ( no no ... I'm not going to use any paint but I am going to transform the light so it's something a bit more nasty :P )

and saturday night I saw Election 1 and Election 2 back to back at the local arthouse movie theater

    Amazing movies

  3. Highmore South Dakota!

Went there a long time ago with the whole family to see my mothers relatives side of the family ( uncles etc )

She had only seen them once before in her life so that gives you an idea how remote the location is.

Driving for hours not crossing any towns or anything but fields and fields

I would see myself going back there to chill out for vacation as it is so calm and quiet over there but the people have little to no notions of the outside world.

Going through ex-Yugoslavia before the conflict in the 90s.

Seen Serbian owned hotels completed deserted as they were rushing for their lives to get out of Croatia as fast as possible.

Picture restaurants were the tables were set and sometimes the food is still on the tables and have been that way for a very long time.

Weed green swimming pools which were never emptied

Montenegro were driving through the mountains felt like you could die any minute as the road was split in so many locations. The cities in Montenegro were the saddest things I ever saw in my life.

At the time gas trucks took forever to fill up the gas stations so you had lines that lasted for days.

People would park their cars at the station line and come back the next day and move forward a little bit.

The family car was a diesel we were nearly out and due to leave the next day with an almost empty tank...

Only the Serbian army vehicules were diesel. My father found this out when he gave a ride to a guy working at the state hotel were we stayed.

He managed to be sent to someone who sold diesel to the Serbian army and my father got a fill up for free. The guy gave the gas to my dad but said to never mention it to anyone there or else he could get in big trouble ( aka potentially killed )

Hearing gun shots and various explosions was quite a freaky experience as well.

I was also in Bulgaria numerous times in the 90s for humanitarian work bringing medication from France. The country had access to little to no medication.

Living with the poor locals who opened their homes to me was the most humbling experience one could ever live.

They gave you the most they could when they themselves had nothing.

  4. I don't get too picky with companies ( as I certainly don't splurge on first class tickets ) and usually go with the cheapest, unless if I can get more convenience of something a little more pricey.

Best flights have been with Klm and Swiss

    Worst ...

Pakistan, India and Egypt Air  ( I am sure I have done others from exotic countries )

I flew with Easyjet the other week for the first time and it was great for the price ( 30 some euros ) but if I have to get an expensive flight next time I am going with the competition.

I hated Easyjet. Uncomfy small seats

And with this crap about restrictions on liquids in airports I couldn't bring a bottle of water aboard so had to pay Easyjet for some fluids for my meds but all companies are cutting back on the little extras these days.

Next time I am going somewhere served by BA and Easyjet and other competitors if the price is the same I am going with the competition.

Especially considering how far out of the way Easyjet airports tend to be ...

Over an hour transportation from London Luton to Downtown no thank you!

I'll take Heathrow with BA, quicker and more convenient

For all the people complaining about Delta AA etc I've always been satisfied. I have had the occasional weather delay which they have no control over and always managed to get freebies out of it(free flight tickets etc)

  5. i took the greyhound to nyc from boston, once. i thought it would be better than the chinatown bus, but not at all. they didn't even stop for a break midway! took the same amount of time and everything.

    correction

    BUT MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE :P

  6. I have always loved my greyhound trips.

Sure not exactly high class but I have always met cool people and managed to strike interesting conversations with others.

From the guy telling me he liked mayo with his fries after he went on a trip in Europe to the crazy college kids embarking on a 24+ hour bus ride for spring break.

The one convo I remember the best was talking to this Coltrane fan. He had a binder full of Coltrane cds. Never saw so much Coltrane in my life. :D

The worst thing I ever heard?

A driver was hitching a ride on the bus. While we were waiting for the driver for the trip the hitching one spent a good 5 minutes saying how unsafe Greyhound was.

How the drivers for years have been getting shot because there is no plexiglas cabin that surrounds them so they have no means of protection.

He even went as far as acting out some attack scenarios

Coincidentially that was the last time I ever rode Greyhound.

I don't mind Greyhound for the most part apart from the time delays, super high costs and slow buses.

My best bus journey was using the chinatown bus companies going between Boston, Nyc, Dc, Philly etc all along the east coast. Super cheap and actually on time!

  7. Damn, that was very helpful jdat! Thank you very much! I don't know if I'm going to go sightseeing on my own a lot, because the school is organizing it and they already planned a lot of sightseeing. And now that you mention it, I DO want to buy some cool designerbooks (I've had an artistblock for more than 6 months!) tho, so thank you! Any books you recommend?

    well design is fairly vague.

What are you specifically interested in?

I could give you pointers but you need to tell me more :D

  8. i haven't been to any clubs or bars out here yet, but from what some of my coworkers tell me, it's impossible to get into the clubs without an even number of girls. I thought LA was pretty bad, but apparently it's worse here.

Paris sucks like that if you are trying to go to the over trendy commercial BS clubs

There are tons of freaky places you can get in when you're solo

also if you by any chance have access to a TV, try to watch Paris Premiere the tv show called Paris Derniere.

The presenter goes around Paris at night every week and you see how crazy Paris is.

The show airs Friday nights at 23.30 ( there's some replays of the show check out the website of the station )

And more importantly the adress book of the places visited:

    http://www.paris-premiere.fr/cms/display.jsp?id=p2_368588&occId=p2_551784&emiId=bd_6124

The places can range from mega underground to high class to trendy to x-rated.

  9. what are you studying?

if you want to spend a semester goofing off abroad that won't be a decisive factor but if you want to get something good out of it you should define what your major and interests are ( apart from denim :P )

  10. all that area north west of alexander platz within a 15 minute at the most walking distance

there's the adidas original store, tons of concept nike freddy perry hugo boss etc stores

    more specifically:

    http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=Rosenthaler+Stra%C3%9Fe+39,+10178+Mitte,+Berlin,+Germany&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=34.945679,71.015625&layer=&ie=UTF8&z=16&ll=52.525961,13.405681&spn=0.006554,0.024376&om=1

all the streets north from that google link have tons of goodies ( before you hit Torstrasse )

Neue Schonhauser Strasse ( fred perry etc ) continue unto Munzstrasse there's the Adidas concept store with American apparel Acne etc etc

Mulackstrasse has APC among other things

if you like design books etc check out Pro Qm it's at Almstadtstraße 48-50 ( adress on superfuture is outdated )

in regards to books you should also take a look at museum stores( the Hamburger Bahnhof - Museum für Gegenwart mostly contemporary art ( Wahrol etc ) had the biggest selection I saw. If you go there check out the Sarah Wiener restaurant next door for a nice snack or meal ).

They have tons of crazy good deals.

I got some books marked down to 15 Euros from 60+ Euros

I just got back from Berlin tuesday and had the best time over there.

Things are so cheap when going out to party eat etc.

I wasn't there to do any clothes shopping so can't really tell you about that even if I did walk by all the stores ... but

I did do tons of book shopping and my carry-on luggage weighed a ton and a half.

also for the tourist tip, obviously get the 3 day pass for musems if you,re into that kind of thing, check out guggenheim if you like pointillism ( they have an expo right now ), HELMUT NEWTON FOUNDATION if you like photography, if you want to knock out all the major sight seeing in an afternoon you can either take the free berlin tour ( you tip the tour guide ) or full day tour for 12 euros or something from:

    http://www.brewersberlintours.com/

  11. if any of you were Supreme haters already this wouldn't change anything.

But for people finding Supreme on the verge of losing all it's cool factor this would most certainly strike the last blow making the brand lose all underground appeal.

    Be a good sufu-er. Say no to such a tee-shirt :P

It will only denature the brand and next thing we know is that Supreme will be so big they'll be as common as the GAP ( which incidentally is slowly going out of business losing all market share, perhaps this is Supremes golden opportunity to step in )

  12. Is RISD really considered a "big dog"? I'm not being facetious - genuine question here.

@Sonagi: jdat brings up a good Q - what do you want to major in? Some schools are better than others depending on the direction you choose.

Small student body resulting in highly selective admissions, dedicated teachers, member of AICAD, one of the highest rankings in the US News annual college review, one of the most desirable schools on the east coast if not the whole nation/world... shall I continue?

    RISD is no joke ;)

  13. Design Architecture Travel etc

    http://www.wallpaper.com/

Surface magazine fashion design etc(features a lot of unknown photographers and the quality of work is usually outstanding )

    http://www.surfacemag.com/

    Metropolis architecture design

    http://www.metropolismag.com/

Res magazine Film, art, music etc ( features a dvd with video clips with each issue if you are subscribed ). A lot of up and coming artists featured.

    http://www.res.com

Lastly I highly recommend you check out Big Magazine, it's strictly photography with little to no commentary. Each issue is focused on one subject for example Paris, Space, Vip, Scandinavia, Technology etc. High quality work. Bit pricey per issue but each issue will be good to keep for years to come.

    http://www.bigmagazine.com/home.htm

    for apartments check out

    http://www.craigslist.org

especially good if you are there for a short term stay(a lot of sublet and temporary ads ).

You may feel cautious about renting from something found on there but me and a lot of other people have done it many times. I have always had a good experience with it.But be careful of scams!

by the way what do you like to read in France?

I like Wad Magazine a lot but the thing is so big it takes forever to read each issue!

Otherwise Stiletto.... can't really think of anything else. There's also Shoes Up for sneakers even if I find the magazine design to be a bit crap it's unfortunate it's like that :(

If you could recommend anything I'd love it. Having a hard time spotting what's cool to read here but the magazine selection here in Alsace kind of sucks

  14. Downtown:

party area ( even if I don't dig so much the vibe in these streets ) plenty of stupidly drunk college kids is

West 6th and west 9th West Saint Clair Ave ( it's 5 to 10 minutes tops walking around that whole block )

there is XO corner w6th St Clair and Sushi Rocks W6th and a couple pricey restaurants around there as well as late night shennanigans party and food places ( pizza by the slice etc ) Cloud Nine Lounge Spy Bar

In Ohio City(real close to downtown): Personnaly I would focus on try to see this area the most. (seeing you're most likely to be spending the rest of the night downtown going here won't be a problem )

Touch Supper Club with chill peeps all around

    http://www.google.com/maps?num=100&hl=en&lr=&safe=off&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&hs=KKX&q=touch&near=Cleveland,+OH&radius=0.0&latlng=41499444,-81695556,3938693183716922388&sa=X&oi=local&ct=result&cd=1

also Great lakes brewing company two minutes away on foot for nice drinks brewed locally ( bit rugged pubbish type vibe ). If you want good beer go here! If you don't go there make sure to order at some other bar the Great Lakes Dortmunt ... it's the regular Cleveland made brew. Top notch!

    http://www.google.com/maps?num=100&hl=en&lr=&safe=off&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&hs=61r&q=brewery&near=Cleveland,+OH&radius=0.0&latlng=41499444,-81695556,16228040338048041777&sa=X&oi=local&ct=result&cd=3

if you're in a rock mood concert etc

    http://www.grogshop.gs/

that is in the Coventry neighbourhood. Easy access from downtown ( 10 minutes tops with no traffic ) but if you don't have a car it's a bit out but cab fair won't cost too much. I only recommend if you'll have a car really. This is the old hippy area with a couple cool shops and restaurants

Cool toy store there called BIG FUN

  15. you're freshman so if you walk out now you won't have wasted years and years of tuition so the loss won't be so bad.

Down the road having a finance major will work as a fall back plan if you don't succed in the creative field.

What I am most curious about is why the sudden change of heart?

I realize when you're a freshman you're not too sure, you are still doing mostly basic credits but there you are talking about going into something totally different.

Is this something you were originally interested in and walked away from the idea?

I see you mentionned RISD Parsons etc all the big dogs! You'll have to really hang in there because these are some of the best schools in the US.

You may be able to make it into a first year art foundation ( some high end schools have this, in most cases it's not obligatory but nearly everyone does it back on their initial artistic levels ) but after that when you have to pick your major?

  16. upload your own torrents,

leech something that is currently being seeded for the first time and has tons of leechers ( you often have new torrents with 1 seeder ( the uploader ) and 50+ leechers ) these are good to cash in on some ratio boosting

and lastly and most importantly ALWAYS SEED!

At least when your computer is powered and connected!

Don't stop seeding till the torrent is dead ( deleted from oink ).

I have almost 2.00 ratio with 200G downloaded

  17. DC and NYC are super close!

If you're calling that a long distance relationship it's obvious that you're not willing to go a little teeny tiny extra mile to try and see her as often as possible.

That would be the easiest long distance relationship ever as you could see each other regurlaly without too much hassles.

Then again if you're putting in doubt the whole notion of this potential relationship in the long term due to distance I guess you may be thinking it's not worth the extra work.

    Sorry for the over-analytical response
