  1. This is about the second time in my life when I wished I had a Windows computer. In fact I can't remember the first. I'll get back to you when the Mac version comes out.

  2. the "weird Japanese shit" store: Super 7, 1630 Post St.

Much like Giant Robot, some of the same stuff, some different stuff. Located across Post street from the "t" in "trenz."

Edited because the Google Maps link broke the page's formatting...

  3. Quote: the satellite maps are nuts.

The satellite maps are almost frighteningly nuts. This weekend I found something cool using the satellite map to check which side of the street something was on - map something in the Castro in San Francisco (san francisco ca 94114), click the satellite link, and zoom in all the way. Looks like a busy day at Castro + Market...

  4. Quote: first draft only...a bit barren...yep.

I live in this neighborhood, I just can't remember the names of some of the places. I'll have more soon. Wayne, you helped me out with some Melbourne recommendations once, a restaurant and some shops I think, so it's only fair play.

  5. The Aveda salon/shop is at 1928 Fillmore, between Pine and Wilmot, on the east side of the street.

Thai Stick 2000 is a good thai restaurant with a bar, on the NW corner of Fillmore and Pine.

Kiehl's should be above Gimme Shoes, the other way around.

And there's a cool little "weird Japanese shit" store kind of like Giant Robot, somewhere off Post. I'll write the name down next time I walk past.

  6. City Optix at 1685 Haight, on the south side of the street, above the first "o" in "giant robot" - good designer glasses and they're making their own frames as well, on some antique machinery in the east bay. Highly recommended.

I'd push Giant Robot a touch further south, as it's really not quite that close to Haight, but I'm an anal bastard like that.

Paul Frank is two years gone, to the Union Square location.

Held Over is another vintage shop, smaller than Wasteland but miles better than Buffalo Exchange or Crossroads. The guys who work there look like they're in the Black Crowes or something. 1543 Haight, just above the "p" in Paul Frank.

Shoe Biz II, the one with the dinosaur out front, is all sneakers and is pretty great, with a DJ sometimes. Like someone said above, it's 1553 Haight St, just a few pixels to the left of Held Over, the above vintage shop. Between this place and Harput's on Fillmore I don't think I've bought sneakers elsewhere in SF for some time.

  7. Saved is a tattoo shop as well as a vintage shop, not sure how you would indicate that on the map. It's a great one, though...

The American Apparel store is at 104 N. 6th, right between Academy and Sea, I believe, but I'm having trouble picturing that block in my head.

  8. Looking pretty good...

The Apple store should be across Stockton from where it is currently - right now the symbol is right on the Virgin Megastore. It should be dotting the "i" in "diner."

Cafe Royale is in the wrong spot - should be right on the corner of Post & Leavenworth, just to the right of the red "t" in "north."

There's a great Thai noodle place called Osha, located to the left of the erroneous Cafe Royale "b," on the corner of Geary and Leavenworth. Someone recommended the Mission location as well, which I've never been to, but which is apparently even better.

Oh, Urban Outfitters is also on the wrong side of Powell Street, and a block north of where it should be - should be right where the "m" in "puma" is.

And I'm fairly certain Lori's Diner is on the wrong side of the street as well - I think it should be just south of where you currently have Urban Outfitters.

South of Market, 3th street could be more accurately called 3rd, but I'm sure you'd catch that on your own soon.
