I caught Blackstreet on a back street in a black jeep

One at a time get out and take off your shine

Did you ever think that you would be this rich?

Did you ever think that you would have these hits?

Did you ever think that I'd flash the nine

and walk off with your shit like it's mine?

  2. There's a lot of conflicting/confusing information on Evisu sizing on these boards, so just doing a search of previous threads may not provide clear answers.

I'll throw in my two cents, which hopefully won't confuse the issue further.

For Evisu No. 2 #2000, I would begin by referring to the sizing chart on this page:

    http://shop.evisu.jp/shopdetail/004004000004/order/

    (scroll down about half way)

The measurements listed are pre-wash, but the denim is sanfordized so shrinking should be minimal, maybe 1" at waist or so. Generally, I think you can go true to your actual waist size or size down one if you're looking for a tighter fit.

For Evisu No. 1 #2000, start with the sizing chart here:

    http://shop.evisu.jp/shopdetail/004004000001/order/

These measurements are also pre-wash, but the denim will shrink considerably. Also, even though they are supposed to be the same cuts, I found the No. 1 2000s to feel considerably slimmer and tighter (waist, thighs, crotch, leg openings etc.) than the No. 2 2000s and I think you can see that if you compare the measurement charts. Generally, I would size up one or two sizes unless you are looking for a very tight and slim fit.

HERE'S WHAT YOU SHOULD REALLY DO TO BE SURE:

Order through the Zipangu Treasures proxy service:

    http://www.superfuture.com/supertalk/showthread.php?t=41096

Masataka at Zipangu is INCREDIBLY helpful when it comes to picking the size you want. Just give him the waist size you are hoping to end up with and he will contact Evisu himself, take into account all shrinkage/sizing issues, and make sure the actual pair of jeans he will be sending you is the right size.

I found ordering from Japan to be a bit of a crap shoot when it came to sizing (charts on web pages were often wrong or outdated), but Masataka really helps take the guess work out of it.

And just to keep the thread on topic--yes, Evisu is still loved. They get a lot of hate here (and the company deserves it), but the Japanese No. 2 and No. 1 Special Denim is still outstanding and ranks among the best I've encountered.

It's Evisu's image and what they now stand for that is no longer loved. Buying a pair of original Evis in the early 90s almost by accident is what got me into denim in the first place. Those painted gulls used to be only about creating the best jeans in the world and there was something beautiful about that purity that was lost when the company went big and started making cheaper stuff, especially for the outside Japan market.

For that reason, I would also go with plain pockets, no painted gulls--or at least the more subtle black gulls or something like that. But that's just me. I'm low key that way.

Good luck and sorry if this got a little long.

  3. Congratulations on the opening at Denim Bar and the recent press, Karl.

I live in Burbank but haven't dropped by American Rag in months--can't wait to see your set up. Do you have a waiting list yet? You probably will soon.

It's also been great following this thread and seeing someone carve a living/business out of something they feel passionate about. Do what you love and fuck the rest.

Let me know when you're going to take Rogue Territory public and need investors. I'll be there.

And when you blow up, sell out, and go all Evisu on our asses, I want my cut of the blood money.

<insert smiley icon here to make clear I'm joking>

  4. Hello--

I'm definitely interested in making you an offer.

Could you please describe the 01 cut? I have been trying to look online but am having trouble figuring out the different Visvim cuts. Is it straight leg, loose fit, slim fit, high rise, low rise, etc?

Also, if you could maybe provide a few more measurements--rise, thigh width, knee width, inseam (after soak)--that would be very helpful.

Thanks and I'll also shoot you a PM.

  5. Suba,

    Your ass is lacking nothing.

Seriously, the Kicking Mules look vicious on you. I'm kind of shocked more guys haven't chimed in to express the appropriate levels of appreciation/awe.

I used to love admiring women in jeans, but lately they just bore me. Same old, same old. The jeans, I mean. And o.k., yes, maybe the women, too.

But you look like you're flying right in those Rockers. Nicely done.

  6. If you're looking for something truly different, Kohzo makes jeans that are a blend of cotton and bamboo fiber.

Really expensive, but the fabric really makes for perfect hot weather jeans.

They sort of look and hang like regular denim, but breathe and feel like you're wearing linen. They almost feel sheer or see through, but don't look it.

I know they carry them at American Rag's "denim bar" here in L.A.--not sure where one would buy online.

And like I said, they're pricey, but I guess if you're considering 45rpm...

Any opinions or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Also, does anyone have experience with the sizing of these jeans? Are they pretty much true to size?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

  8. Most members who follow these boards are probably familiar with the usual suspects of top denim makers--Samurai, 45RPM, Sugarcane, Studio D'Artisan, Denime, APC, Nudie, etc.

Does anyone have any suggestions for denim makers that are more under the radar and maybe don't get the attention they deserve on the boards?

I'd be really curious to hear about and get schooled on some of the lesser known brands out there.

For starters, I'll throw out the Japanese brand Omnigod. I've mentioned them in a couple of previous threads and I know a lot of people here have heard of them, but they have some really nice jeans and are also one of the few makers who do a really good job making natural-looking prewashed/distressed selvage jeans.

    Some Omnigod links:

I look forward to reading people's responses and suggestions.

  9. I have also noticed a lack of discussion concerning prewashed/faded/distressed jeans on these boards. I think most denim heads are more into buying raw and unwashed denim and wearing the hell out of the jeans themselves.

But I like having some lighter colored washed/distressed selvage jeans in my arsenal while I am breaking in the really hardcore stuff. I have tried some different brands and I would suggest checking out a Japanese brand called Omnigod.

They do some really nices washes with their selvage jeans--very natural, not too overblown or ripped up. The fits and denim quality are really top notch. I own a couple pair and they are definitely my favorite washed denim. I would say that Omnigod is one of the most underrated Japanese denim makers. I put them right up there with Studio D'artisan, Sugarcane, Samurai, etc.

The downside? They are expensive and seem to be only available in Japan, which means you'd have to go through the whole celga/buying service song and dance. But I'd say that it's worth it if you have the money and patience.

If you're interested, here is a link to a translated page so you can check some of them out and see if they are in the ballpark of what you are looking for--

    Good luck.

  10. Hello--

I live in Los Angeles, where even the upcoming fall and "winter" seasons don't normally require much when it comes to outerwear.

I have found that lightweight jackets can come in handy when it comes to cooler days, rainy stretches (it does happen), going out at night, etc.

What I am looking for is a lightweight coat/jacket that is casual, but not too casual. I want something that falls in between the family of windbreakers, hoodies, track suit jackets, etc. and the family of more formal and traditional blazers. Ideally, I'd like something that could work with both skateboard/athletic shoes but could also be paired with dressier shoes too.

Someone posted the link to this Japanese FOB Factory "homeless" jacket earlier as a joke, but I'm ashamed to say it actually might be pretty close to what I'm looking for--

    http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=ja&u=http://www.j-fabled.com/index2.html&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dhttp://www.j-fabled.com/index2.html%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D

(you have to scroll down to Sept. 7th on the right side of page)

I've also seen some stuff from Nice Collective that might work. If anyone has any suggestions for a jacket like this that might fit this genre, please post them. If you could also post links to places where I could find and buy the jacket, that would be fantastic.

I am looking for something black or charcoal in color but I'm really open to anything.

Thank you in advance for all your help and advice.

  11. I am considering ordering a pair of Sugarcane 14.25oz Hawaii denim through celga. I will post after the experience and report how it went--cost of shipping, time it took, etc.

I do have a question regarding Sugarcane sizing. Do the Canes shrink down to the size on the tag or do they come raw as the size on the tag and then shrink down a few inches smaller than what is marked on the tag?

    In other words, I'm a size 32 waist. Should I order a 32 or should I order something like a 34?

I searched the archives for this information and there has been a difference of opinion in the past on whether Sugarcanes come as the size on the tag or whether they shrink down to that size after the first wash or dunk in the tub. Maybe someone can put the matter to rest--or maybe it varies depending on the different style of jean.

Thanks. Any knowledge would be greatly appreciated.

  12. I have a couple pairs of linen pants that I really like.

One is a pair of Da Nang linen cargo pants and the other is a very basic linen trouser that I got from Brooks Brothers, but I got them both last year and I'm not sure if they're still being made or sold.

I pretty much live in jeans but they are a great change of pace for when it's really scorching and/or humid.

Good luck and let us know what you find.
