  1. Can anyone help me with a good place for clubbing on a Thursday or Friday night in Montreal? I'm not looking for the Webster Hall North (aka Club 737) experience - just some decent place to go to for great music and decent people. (If I wanted to hear a Long Island accent, I'd stay in NYC.)

Specifically looking for the 5th or 6th of Octobre, so any help for any decent parties those nights would be most appreciated.

  2. MUJI started at about 15.700 yen, while Don Quijote was around 12.000 or so... (though you should DEFINITELY hit that store...) the best I saw were at the local supermarket in Nakano (near Nakano Broadway) - they were like 8.600 or so, or roughly $80... I forget the name of it though... (if you're walking N from the train station to Nakano Broadway, continue under the covered walkway and it's the first right at the takoyaki stand...)

  3. Ben Sherman goes between frat-boy and mod types. Back in the day there only used to be a couple lines, mostly the mod short-sleeves and jumpers. Now, we have dozens of lines - some crap, some great (Black Label stuff is quite nice and well-tailored).

As for Evisu kicks, well, I love them - brown leather and velcro. They're not bapestas or anything, but they are sweet IMHO.

If you don't like 'em, don't buy 'em - more for me!

  4. While in Japan I saw a couple of pairs of R. Newbold Jeans that I really liked (at 01 Men and the store in Aoyama/Harajuku). Anyways, since it's a subsidiary, I figured that the design was done by the same team. However, I just saw that these were Japanese designers that were making these lines and I was wondering if anyone knew who they were. (Couldn't get any as they didn't have any that fit my Western ass - who knew that 33/34 was over-sized in Japan!)

  6. daikonyama -

Yeah - last time I was in town I bought a Paul Smith wallet at the flagship store outside of Harajuku - near Shibuya. It was like around $100 - the same wallet would have run me $180 here in the states... Damn - I wish I could find out about those stores...

  7. Yeah - had already planned to spend a decent amount of time in Daikanyama - thanks for heads up on that other map - I'll have to print it out to take w/me...

Since I'm probably going to hit Ueno anyways just to see what's out there (most of these are at least imports to us here in the States) - can you recommend any of those. (Chapter World has been added to the list of stores to hit in Harajuku.)

  8. What are the best sneaker and clothing shops in Ueno? (I heard that this is the place to go to for limited edition shoes and the such.) In particular, are there any that would carry stylish kicks in larger sizes - like Japan size 29 or 30? (US 11s and 12s) I know they exist - I have a pair of Evisu kicks that are US size 12. Also, any good shops selling these at discounts?

    Cheers -

  9. Reading this post reminded me of a question I'd been meaning to ask. Last time I was in Tokyo I remember reading that there were lots of places in Ebisu/Daikanyama to buy discount Paul Smith clothing. I walked around Ebisu and came up empty. Can anyone perhaps recommend any stores that carry discount Paul Smith?

Also, I'd be happy to find out any places that sell discount name-brand apparel - particularly by smaller Japanese clothiers.

    Cheers -
