  1. Maybe "Iron Army" is what the japanese armies of centuries past were called...as I would surmise they were clad in iron to do battle...

I appreciate the fact that it say big "HIRO" small "ito" on there but can't quite imagine the Steves picking a random japanese name for their brand...

I might be wrong but my immediate association is with the Emperor...still quite the iconinc figure in Japan today...

Then again these jeans are made in the US..?

    hmm...

    elucidatory details forthcoming I hope...

  2. Hirohito was the last emperor of Japan...

he was (symbolic) emperor for over 60 years...

and orchestrated the surrender of Japan in 1946 to end WWII...

I don't quite see how that correlates to the jeans...

but I'm sure one of the Steves can enlighten us all...

  3. plain white t-shirts : jockeys, hanes, calvin klein fit fine...not a fan of american apparel as those are scandalously overpriced...

club monaco has good t-shirts on sale all the time...great fit...if you have a Club Monaco outlet near you you can get'em for dirt cheap...

as far as "cool" designed/tshirts : I tend to scour the net for those as I naturally tend to stay away from items that are readily available in shops...I get a lot of stuff from skateboard shops/sites...some of those companies have very nice design aesthetics...

again...I like a close fit on my t-shirts...

    where do you live?

  4. am 6'5" as well and I've never had a problem finding clothing of all kinds that fits superbly...

they tend to be of the upscale designer kind because they match my body type better (I swim so I have wide shoulders narrow waist)...

but I can buy anything straight off the rack in Jil Sander, Dior, Dolce, Burberry Prorsum, YSL etc...hell Club Monaco even...

depends on your body type and how you like your clothes to fit...and also the specific garment...

    dress shirts are tricky...

shorts are absolutely out of the question ha!

  5. Called up the Preservation today...and they confirmed the Rodeo Man Bootcut men's jean is the one I am in possession of...so off I go...will be wearing these every other day for the next 4 months...thanks all indeed for the info...

p.s. I forgot to ask if they have a storefront but I doubt highly they do...and I mean HIGHLY...do they even have a proper address ? all I have for them is a P.O. box...

  6. this is also correct..I guess i meant to intimate that it was not far from me...shipping wise...and zip code wise as it is located in New Jersey...not far from Camden...

what does matter is that there is no sales tax on clothing in New Jersey ...icon_smile_big.gif

  7. whiskey, I buy mostly lower-rise jeans actually..own multiple pairs of Levi Skinner, Earnest Sewn and the Red Ear Paul Smith's...and wear them constantly...the Canes bootcut to my considerable surprise have the same exact rise (8" with a slightly over 4" fly) as a pair of Earnest Sewn Hutch I pulled out for comparison...

unless the Preservation tells me the sent me a pair of womens jeans...I'm keep these Canes...the denim and the fit is outstanding...

  8. same price as on the site...$165 for the jeans...shipping and insurance is $15.50...I got them Next Day (from the time they got them in from Japan) because they're in Cherry Hill, NJ and I'm in Manhattan...

  9. Bobby:

they are not on the site...

since I knew rakuten had a massive selection...

far greater than the 2 styles I think History Preservation features on their site...

went to Rakuten's site...got the serial/model number...called up the Preservation and ordered those...

it was as simple as that...no stress at all...

you can probably get them to order any of the jeans...well maybe not the super distressed ones or the ones with ass printing...

    that might offend their sensibilities...

  10. that is the very question I will ask them tomorrow...there must have been a mixup between what they asked for and what they received from Toyo Enterprise...

They don't have the boot cut on their site that I can recall...I just called and asked for them...

it should all be corrected with minimal acrimony...they're right over the Hudson from Manhattan...

  11. I am still a little perplexed at your level of incredulity...

    it's actually pretty funny...

they couldn't have POSSIBLY made a mistake?

I can take a pic of the receipt and post it if you'd like...

will give them a ring get to the bottom of this...for the record except for the rise...they fit superbly...

there's another brand called Sugar Cane?

  12. Ah ha!

That would explain it if that were the case then...lovely...

I was unaware Sugar Cane made girls jeans and would be very surprised if the good people at the History Preservation Society would have made such an egregiuos error in shipping...

it's model SC40321A Bootcut Jeans One Wash...

incidently what makes you think I didn't order those from History Preservation? it's a rather ridiculous thing to say...

  13. Forgive me if this has been discussed already (this thread is immensely long) but thanks to the comments/posts...I went ahead and ordered me a pair of SugarCanes...and am probably one of the very few who requested the Rodeo Man Bootcut ones...with the zip fly...

they arrived today courtesy of the Preservers of History...just on sight you can tell it's beautiful, superlative denim...

but when I actually tried them on...goodness me...

the crotch measures at a tick over 4 INCHES!!!!?!

we're in levi's offensively low Skinner and D-Squared territory here gents...

I was shocked..could barely barely sit in them without the entire jean tumbling down onto the ground...the waist is good...tight thigh but that's the way I want it...they look killer on (standing)...but that crotch rise...I was entirely unprepared for...

I wonder if any one else noticed the same thing...

  14. between those three stores you get a good snapshot of most of the collection...which in of itself is pretty cool...

i like it...nice details on some of the pieces...but being tall..it can be a difficult fit sometimes...

it's kinda super-upscale Abercrombie isn't it?...and thus it tends to be a little logo-heavy no?...but the fit if you're of the slimmer variety is good...

You have to remember that (at least in NYC...dunno for other places)...the people buying D-Squared are in huge majority gay men...so the fit tends to be hyper body-conscious...for the workout fiends who don't mind showing off a little bit (thus perhaps the over-design phenomenon you speak of)...or a lot...

I have a pair of denims from them...I liked the DC/DC patch detail on the back... I was a little apprehensive when I bought them because they are some SEEEEERIOUSLY low rise jeans let me tell you...but they're cool...
