  1. just received my Pure Blue Japan xx-005 jeans today, after they were posted out on Monday! what can I say that hasn't already been said before about xcoldricex's superb service!?

the jeans are really nice quality and cut. i'd say they're slimmer in a size 30 than my apc new standards in a 28. the denim is amazing too - my Burgus Plus levi 517-style jeans (also from xcoldricex) were the best quality denims I had until now...

  2. excellent topic. Yet Fung's post kind of sums it all up for me -

lvc are inferior to a lot of the japanese repros simply because all the care and love and craftsmanship that was put into true vintage levis is missing in lvc. it's the repros from japan that now bear this craftsmanship and care.

it's not just the original product that's being reproduced in Japanese repros, it's the ethos.

to me, it really doesn't matter where a product is made or what tag is on the back pocket, so long as it is made well by people who care about what they are making.

but if you are concerned about home-produced products, why not take the time to look more closely at smaller companies making home-made products for all the right reasons, rather than being lazy and blinkered by the labels of massive corporations, whose 'authenticity' is now just a marketing ploy rather than anything genuine.

  3. here's another happy customer - my sd 303s were posted on Monday and they arrived today. They're perfect! xcoldricex was really helpful(as you all probably know by now), which makes everything so much easier. cheers!

Just placed another order aswell icon_smile_tongue.gif

I've had a pair of 44's and 52's, both from Japan and both shrunk down to the tag size 33 leg after a few washes.

    --- Original message by tm1210 on May 23, 2006 11:42 AM

how do the 52s fit in relation to the 44s? i used to have the 44s and they were an excellent fit in the leg, but the seat was just a little too loose.

Lees (101EUs 101japan and xline) always fit 2" big on the waist for me - I think it's because of how the waist dips down on the front

I have checked the D'artisan site, and from the looks of it the difference betwen 103,203 and 303 is the weight and that the 103 has hidden rivets and 103,203 has a leather patch?

But is there any difference in the dying? Or will they all hold thier color equaly good?

    Any other differences?

    Please help me!

I might be completey wrong here, but aside from the denim weight I thought the 100s were shrink to fit, the 200s were sanforized and the 300s were one-wash/shrunk.

those 105s look really nice, they look to fit really similar to Ironheart Bootcuts

  6. I bought a pair of the 'slim' jeans for lounging around the house in - not bad quality, regular/straight cut, soft-ish, really comfortable. the Indigo bleeds all over the place.

Unfortunately there's a big dark blue coloured D on the right back pocket, which hardly shows up at the moment, but will get clearer with wear icon_smile_dissapprove.gif

sorry for the poor quality pics

I don't think topman is a really low supermarket brand - it's more disposable fashion, made to be in for 6 months and then never worn again when the next fad comes in. They do this really well.

I'll say one thing - I actually bought my normal trouser size, and they fit me in the waist perfectly. Which makes a nice change from going two sizes down on APC Nudies et al.

  7. at a rough guess (based on how much regular ralfs stretch) I'd say sizing down is the best option, unless you like to wear jeans a bit looser

  8. I ordered a pair these jeans from zoovillage last week, and after a day, the order just disappeared from my order history page with no message or email as to why. The customer service is really hit and miss with that place sometimes.

Still, they normally have a good selection of Nudies, it's just a pity that actually buying them is the hard part...

I always prefer black denim with contrasting stitching - black denim with black stitching can look too plain

that would be called yarn-dyed? I think it must be garment dyed, since the description on the site says overdyed, what do you think. It looks like it's a distressed black over the normal blue (I guess it might be even the normal new standard under it, selvage and all?).

    blackstand6dk.jpg

the price seems to have increased another $9.

I've just bought them - obviously they're pre-washed, so they're really soft and very black.

on the seams they're a bit lighter like in the pic, but they're not white, more like a different shade of black. the legs are just pure black.

looking at them, it'd take a LONG time before there's any fade on them, but when they do break, it looks like it'll most likely be to white, not blue. they are selvage.

they're more like a pair of black twill jeans-style trousers than jeans died black.

I have their "bootcut" jean and yes it is only slightly bootcut but I think that's the way bootcut should be. I'm not the biggest fan of slim jeans and sometimes straight leg is too tight at the ankle. 5EP's version of "bootcut" is just perfect.

    --- Original message by shinobi2000 on Sep 7, 2005 04:14 PM

what's the rise like on the bootcut? all the 5ep jeans I've seen look to have a pretty long rise.
  13. the rise is longer than on 1947s - it's about 12 inches. they're kind of 'full cut' in the thighs, and again, taper slightly from the knee. they're quite similar to 1944s, but with a less 'boxy' look

Maybe it's because I'm really skinny, but the ass sticks out on my 1955s so much to the point that I'm going to have to sell them on.

I had some pre-washed 1955s that were fine though, prewashed lvc tend to be a lot smaller in the leg and waist than unwashed ones that you shrink them down yourself.

    I'm a 30/34 in 1944s, 31/34 in 1947s and 30/34 in 1955s but I only wear 1947s in LVC now, unless I can get my hands on some 1971 501s

Edited by JohnW on Sep 4, 2005 at 01:32 AM

  14. 1944s have a straighter leg, which is a fuller cut than 1947s, but not what you'd call loose.

they also have a longer rise (12.5" I think), and like witt said, a baggy ass

    1944s

    http://www.rakuten.co.jp/hinoya/141935/141937/191259/

1947s are slimmer in the seat and leg whith about an 11/11.5" rise. they taper very slighly from the knee

I like the denim and colour of 1944s when unwashed, but am too skinny to get away with wearing them. to me, 1947s just look better, and the denim also has a nice colour - a more indigo blue colour compared to the dull grey/blue of 1944s.

Handsblue forum is dead and the news pages aren't really too denim orientated. I think the admins on here could klean up on the internet denim scene if they want to. Theres a danger of supertalk becoming too denimtalk and scaring off supershopping talkers. If someone asks a question about shopping in paris or milan nobody gives a crap now. I read bout the new superfuture and i bet there will be a denim part. I wonder if anyone has rgistered superdenim.com?

agreed. everytime I've been on their there really hasn't been any posts, though to be fair it took mynudies a year or so to get regular posters
  16. "the people here aren't sheep, they're MOSTLY denim heads that have found their way to a like-minded gathering place, where the general populus' current styles and trends are not very relevant. Some are here looking for info on a quality jean and obviously whichever ones have the most information available are going to be popular by virtue of that fact alone."

spot on - i think this is the case with most people who talk about denim here.

A lot of info about denim is quite hard to find, even a year ago there wasn't really that much info about fits in english online - I've spent ages trawling japanese and korean sites trying to find how a pair of lvc fits/shrinks etc, as there was never really a site where you could find the info out - superfutue/style-forum/mynudies do tend to help with this

the other day someone at work was talking about a salad dressing that was really nice, i liked the sound of it and went out and bought some - does that make me a sheep!? icon_smile_tongue.gif

I just bought a pair of the LVC '66 Old Rinse jeans. I was under the impression that the fit of these jeans was similar to the fit of the '47, but these are a lot baggier up top and seem to taper down more, rather than having a straight leg. I wouldn't wear them as they are now--I like my jeans to be tight. So my question is, what's the best way to get maximum shrinkage? The jeans tag size is 36x36, so I they're supposed to be like a 34x33, which would fit me perfectly. Right they're probably more like 35x34.5.

    wash hot tumble dry hot? (i think 66s only shrink a little - I'm a 30/32 and I bought a 30/34)

as they're pre shrunk, I doubt they'll shrink much - I had the same problem with these jeans, they weren't as nice as I thought they would be, the denim was really thin and weird, and like you said about the fit. sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and get rid icon_smile_sad.gif (unless you know a good tailor, i suppose).

as a skinny guy, the only lvc that's ever suited me is the 1947s, even the 67505 slim jeans were weird fitting in the thigh.

  18. the crotch doesn't alter due to leg length, it changes due to waist size.

if they are unwashed, then the knee thingy isn't really an issue, as they are relatively straight cut(they taper in a little) so there isn't a specific part of the leg which is considered the knee. the jeans shape to your body, you don't have to shape to them.

  19. 101z europe's are looser than 1947 501s. they're anti-fit/baggy-ass jeans with a true straight leg, unlike 47501s which taper in slightly from the knee.

Lees generally aren't shrink to fit. they shrink down to the tag size - that's what lee says, anyway - They don't shrink significantly from their original size at all.

    levi 47501s shrink down from the tag size - I'm a 30/32, but I wear a 31/34 in 47501s.

for me, because of how the waist dips at the front on lee jeans, and because they tend not to fit around the backside, I tend to go a waist size down on them.

  20. I've just got the 2005/6 winter APC catalogue and there's no black denim unfortunately, there's just the narrow, new standard and mens jeans(I'm assuming these are the rescues) - so there's no more english cut either.

wonder if they'll introduce black denim later - just got some helmut lang black denim, and new standards would look perfect in this colour

some nice stuff in there though...
