J49-SS arrived. It's like armour. The only drawback (as with all WB-400 fabrics, imo) is that it sometimes looks too technical on its own, and this version is a sort of waffle. Haven't tried layering with e.g. the J40 / J11 yet, though.

maybe the subnet guys knew
There was no pre-order, pre-announcement, or pre-availability.

From the Nikelab instagram:
"We took an existing shoe and used masking tape, markers, scissors and glue and mocked a proto up. Building it life-sized helped us be really sure that, yes, it would work. It wasn't just an aesthetic exercise"
It really, really, doesn't work.

Wow.

There's a few different versions of CH though. SS-13 CH with energear for instance is super waterproof, moreso than any lightshell. Comes at the cost of being more noisy and having a synthetic feal.
Yeah, the SS13 CH fabric is WB-400; it's a cotton face with a polyester backer.
The FW1415 and SS15 CH is a completely different cotton/polymer blend without a backer, so there's no synthetic feel, just a vague slickness, like the cotton's oiled, somehow (it isn't), although that could be down to the 3XDRY / coldblack treatments.

New Outlier Climbers are the best pants they've ever done, IMO. Got them last week (charcoal) and haven't taken them off.

ACR have done belts before. The first was maybe 10 years ago, and it was metal-detector safe, due to having a plastic buckle. Can't remember the designation anymore.

The aramid should give them pretty good abrasion resistance
I think the aramid is only used in the seams, not the fabric itself.

I think the state of the jacket 8,5/ 10 (There are minor scuffs (see photo)
Those are holes where the EtaProof has worn against the shock cord (because friction and abrasion wear EtaProof extremely quickly), and it's only going to get worse.
I wouldn't describe an item with holes as 8.5 / 10. Whether someone will give you over $600 is up to them, I suppose.

in my experience SI:SP, at least in terms of outerwear, has the most flattering 'fit' among the techwear brands specifically in comparison acr and veilance. 'Fit' being defined in a more traditional sense - slim and tailored.
At first, I thought it was just my own perception until I read this interview with errolson: http://www.highsnobiety.com/2014/04/09/what-else-errolson-hugh/. He mentions stone island's in-house 'fit guy' whose sole purpose is to make the garment fit well and look good on a body.
This definitely leaks through to ACR in certain pieces, though. The J40-CH, the J38-LP, and some of the suspensor pieces fit in a completely different (and much better) way than slim-fitting pieces from earlier seasons. It's especially obvious in the construction of the J40, which has an internal structure to help it fit, settle, and move, and is actually cut like a slim-fitting shirt through the waist. At the risk of being an asshole, the fact that this either hasn't been noticed or discussed much here isn't really surprising.

Bump for ACR items!

I've worn my J40-CH a lot since I got it.
It's not Nomex (someone explained what it was on this thread back in August, and how it differed from Nomex and it made sense), so yeah, could be Pyroshell.
- It's a bit warmer and more waterproof (because it's a heavier fabric) than earlier Schoeller Epic cotton shell jackets, but not earth-shatteringly so. It wets out fairly quickly, and dries quickly. I haven't washed mine or tumble-dried it.
- I think the colour has lightened a bit in a really nice way; the Epic black pieces I've owned have gone slightly brown over time (I'm talking years) and it hasn't looked good. The J40 is more blue-y (which it was to begin with anyway).
- I've been wearing a rucksack, and I've noticed that a point on each shoulder has become a bit shiny as a result (I'll grab some pics when the light's good). I don't know what would happen in the long term, and I'm not willing to find out, because I like the jacket far too much. It's just the way the seams are placed.
- The outside pocket zips are too small. No big deal.
- It fits me better (I'm 185cm / 70kg, wear an S) than anything I've ever bought off the peg

ACG Chukkas arrived and are going straight back. Clunky and boring-looking, and the rubber toe-caps make them look like sensible dad shoes. The flyknit pattern is lovely, though, and the toe and heel rubber is very sticky – obviously haven't tried, but I can't imagine there're gonna be any traction issues.

Snagged a pair of the SFB Chukkas. Looks like they have a softer rubber at the midsole, so we'll see.

Enough about people's feelings about the collection – how do people feel about the new labels? I miss the black, with the ACR aphorism, I think, although I appreciate the brutal minimalism of the new ones.
Also, is there a reason that there's no fabric info/care label on some pieces (though the ACR label reproduces care instructions, and basic makeup)? Perhaps to make it a little more difficult to buy the same fabric?

J40-CH arrived today after a week in UPS hell. It's really, really nice. In fact, I think it's one of my favourite ever ACR pieces (and I've been buying it since 2005). It remains to be seen whether it's hard-wearing, but it's certainly heavier and more substantial than Epic, and the modacrylic should help.

I had the first (I think) ACR Epic jacket, and it lasted about five years. Eventually, the hem wore out at the back due to the shockcord wearing against bags (it was cordura-reinforced on the inner side, but not the outer side). I wouldn't say it wasn't durable, but in the end, it's just thin cotton.
Every EtaProof piece I've owned (the first P9 iteration, and two Outlier pieces) has prematurely worn out. I've mentioned it elsewhere, but it's basically down to the threads breaking and the weave coming apart. I love it as a material, but considering the cost, it's not really worth it.
Re: durability and wear, this is what Epic looks like after a couple of years

Yeah, reasonable – But people are free to make an offer that they feel reflects both of those things. I'm not in a rush to sell, and the 8TS is quite rare.
