  1. i have a old id magazine issue from 1992, with an interview from yamane talking about his concept of starting a bespoke custom denim line for people that are sick of levi's. 10 years later, look what he's accomplished. people are quick to jump and say that it's this hipster thing to wear evisu, when they don't have any clue about how long it's taken him to get this brand to the place it's at now. he's a visionary for sure, and in ten years i'll still be wearing evisu.

  2. pratt is a good school, but as parsons is my alma mater, i'd have to say them first.

a run down of the city's art colleges, in order of reputation and merits.

1.cooper union (possibly the best art school in the country, nearly impossible to get into)

2.parsons (owned by the heavily endowed new school, they focus on the commercial side of art education. you will learning how to make $100 million, rather than live in a hut and starve. famous alumni : richard avedon, madonna ,bruce weber, donna karen, larry rivers, anna sui, steven miesel) you'll be on 14th and 5th ave in the village, unless you're a fashion design student, then you'll be in times square.

3.pratt (legendary school. 2nd oldest art school in new york city. focus is on the fine arts side of things, but thats changing now i heard. in the middle of brooklyn, which sucks. pratt is next to huge project houses on one side, and the hisidic jews on teh other. funky neighbors, but super sketchy at night.)

4.sva (used to be kicking pratt's butt, but the campus is run down now, from what i heard. you'll be in manhattan on 23rd st.)

5.fit (unless you're going fashion design, i'd avoid this school all together. it's in the center of the fashion wholesale area of manhattan for a reason! famous alumni : marc jacobs, issac mizrahi, zac posen, calvin klein, ralph lauren)

  3. the fact that people get upset about terry richardson is exactly what he's going after. it's provocative work, and it's meant to fuck with your social/moral boundaries. the more upset and shocked you get, the more he succeeds as an artist. i think his stuff is great for what it is. he's not trying to reinvent the wheel, so i wouldn't try reading to much into the subject matter. without juergen teller there would be no terry richardson. juergen was shooting the same subject matter 15 years ago.

  4. astor wines corner of astor place/8th street & lafayette street. they stock some serious vodka's. the best vodka bars in town are either kgb bar (4th st between bowery and 2nd ave) or pravda bar (lafayette st between houston and prince st. have fun. by the way solarized is a great album.

  5. when you get into KIX airport, just ask at the info counter about "america mura". it's a long street with loads of small boutiques and clothes/trainer shops. although largely on the skate/hip hop tip, you'll find some amazing stuff there. for electronics there is 'den den town' which is in the center of town. have fun. osaka is amazing.

  6. Real evisu's have the evisu logo's on each button in the fly. there is double stitching on the front pockets of authentic evisu's. real evisu's use gold thread throughout. The seagull logo should be the whole width of the rear pocket.
