  1. As you might have discovered, most laptop cases are functional but ugly.

When I get a new notebook I get a custom sleeve made from velvet or suede-style cloth. It has a lid/flap that seals with velcro for a nice snug fit. A custom sleeve is inexpensive to have made (DIY if you can run a sewing machine without chomping your fingers). Use the velvet inside out so the soft surface pampers persephone. I place my soft notebook sleeve into whatever case I'm carrying - messenger bag, aircraft carry on, briefcase or whatever.

You could buy a dedicated bag to carry the sleeve in if you want - the bag has the style and the sleeve does the protecting.

If you need somewhere to place your powerpack, cables and other gizmos I use a couple of stylish oversized zip up stationery bags like schoolkids use (from Muji or somewhere). They keep the cable spaghetti out of my face.

As geeky as the above sounds, it lets you have the case of your choice while also pampering your notebook. It sure beats carrying one of those those overstuffed black Targus bags and when people see your velvet sleeve they'll go "oooh where did you get that?!"

  2. Totally depends on what you're into but there is something for everyone.

It's easy to spend several days in Vegas without participating in any gambling antics.

It can be cheesy but that's what Vegas was built on (not sand but cheese...)

    - Go to one of the Cirque du Soleil shows like 'O'

    - Check out some of the decor at The Venetian, Paris and Luxor hotels. I don't like the Bellagio much but it's popular for a gawk

    - Day tours to The Grand Canyon (w helicopter ride in the canyon if you like)

    - Check the gig listings, there might be some cool band passing through

    - In the more expensive hotels there are plenty of good restaurants

    - Check out some of the small wedding chapels (entries in your hotel yelow pages)

    - Vegas is mostly about people-watching. Every brand of freak is there to gawk at. Be sure to go to the cheapest looking casino you can find and check out the limping toothless trailer trash with their mullets and wife-beater singlets. You might see someone famous - from an episode of COPs

  3. This might be useful (although I can’t vouch for the quality and they don’t seem to have shopping tips) http://www.jetsetmoscow.com

Never been there but have heard...

if you can get to the countryside, maybe go to Zhukovka which is where the wealthy Moscow playthings have their weekenders (described as "the East Hampton of Moscow" - which might not be a good thing).

In Zhukovka, the Tretyakov Projezd is a luxury brand arcade akin to Via Montenapoleone in Milan. I think Wallpaper reviewed within the last year or two.

  4. In terms of architecture most people think of Gaudi in BCN but you must visit Mies van der Rohe's Barcelona Pavillon at Placa de Espana. Go there and pay homage.

If you don't know what this is then Google it (and then go there and pay homage...)
