Roy. (expurgated edition)

On a positive, at least your compulsive behavior is limited to denim! I picked up a pair of these Roy’s in a 33 but I’m on the fence if I’m going to keep them or not. I’ve got plenty of room In the waist and not that much throughout the leg. I’d need to replicate your waist only shrinkage voodoo.

Leg shrinkage is disappointing given the Self Edge claim of 3 inches that I based my hem on. You'd think such a small, expensive batch created by hardcore denim nerds would have some better testing done on the unique fabric.  I'll reserve my final judgement until I can try mine out ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It will probably shrink more in subsequent washes and you will get your 2.5-3 inches

The inseam shrinkage info we post on our website is "maximum shrinkage".. meaning if the jean was unhemmed and it was washed at least a few times.  The shorter the inseam the less shrinkage you'll get and the less washes the less shrinkage you'll have.

Having read @JohnM and @reallypeacedoff comments about the grey cast of the RT fabric -  if memory serves me correctly, most of my Roy’s made from any batch of Cone denim had a grey tone prior and even post first soak. All became much bluer after a couple of dips.

Isnt a grey cast quite typical of loom state Cone denims?
Edit: Starch - isn’t it to do with the starch?

Really like the fit of this new pair - similar to R01 up top and just a bit slimmer from above the knee straight to hem.  I prefer them to the 01. Barn find denim is very smooth-shiny almost like a left hand twill — substantial though like black seed. This cut is most flattering and my favorite Roy so far

So I got some shrinkage out with the initial soak but decided to wash some other raws that needed a clean and threw in the Roys too. Hot wash. Line dried.

Put them on today for the first time, this is 2 minutes in. Unsure whether I will leave cuffed but will wait for them to settle in a months time. Measurements below that. Definitely got some shrinkage out of them.

On a happy note, I got 2.5 inches from a hot soak and drip dry.  When I saw a report of 2 inches shrink from a full length inseam with time in the drier, I get a little nervous.  Percentage shrink may be a better metric to use than inches of shrink.  Percentage-wise, I got the equivalent to 3 inches after hemming.

My RT-XX (or whatever they are, lol) finally arrived today. Haven't had a chance to do anything but glance at them quickly. I'll get measurements and comparison pics to the Black Seed denim soon...

Here are some quick comparison shots of Roy's Black Seed denim vs the XX Experimental denim. Both raw. The XX Ex is darker and grayer, and more uniform in texture and color than the Black Seed. The XX Ex weft has a green-ish hue. The differences are more apparent IRL. My camera phone won't pick up the details and colors accurately.

My measurements for size 33 are almost identical, accounting for user error.

This cut is really awesome, even thought I haven't even tried them on yet. Roy's R01 cut is great, and I'd prefer a slight taper below the knee to a slightly smaller leg opening, which this has.

The difference in the width of the leg -- as the pictures above show by @mpukas, is quite small, but the result is a much more flattering fit ( of course, in my opinion )

I haven't taken these things off since I got them and have yet to even give them a soak.

Happy Holidays to me! Was able to get a pair of the new RT from @chenchi101 who saw my post here. I’m always slow on release day and didn’t press the button quick enough. I’ll probably live in these along with my TCB 40s contest pair and my new Warehouse s1000xx DSB.
