Those Peanuts and Memorials are looking great. Thanks for sharing, dudes. I picked up the R01, and like them so much I grabbed the Test Lots too. I can't get enough of this cut these days. Roy is killing it.

Yup this cut he’s made is golden, at first I felt like the Memorial Jeans were too big but now that the denim has broken in a bit it’s perfect. Glad I have the R01 test lots that I haven’t soaked yet. Sounds like the new jeans with SE will be released on the 15th.

+2 to Roy's Memorial cut. It really a great. I was just comparing fits of some of my different pairs, and his is the best high-rise straight leg. Possibly the best cut period. What works so well for me is the proportions of waist-hip-thigh.

People who like the Roy memorial should check out IH's 1955S, which has close-to-exactly the same measurements.

I had a pair of 1955-UHR but sold them. I didn't think they fit me anywhere near as good as Roy's cut. Maybe if I had sized down about 2-3 sizes they would have worked better.

Agree, I have both and they fit similarly -- both have a lot of room in the hips, thighs, and knees, but come in at the waist.  Both are also size 34 and the Roy's are a touch bigger, pretty much everywhere.  But the shape is similar.  The IH pair I have is also significantly brighter blue, not quite 'electric'.  I prefer the more subdued color of the Roy's.

Here are the measurements of my Roy Memorial 34, Peanut 34 (now sold) and a IH 1955S 33:

-------RoyM34--RoyP34--IH33

Waist----35----35----34

Thigh----13.25----13.5----13

Knee----9.75----10----9.75

F Rise----12.5----13----12.5

B Rise----17----17.5----17

Obviously, the feel of the denim (the IH being much heavier and stiffer at first) and the construction details are different. I'm not arguing in favor of one or the other (I love both). I'm just perplexed by reading raving comments about the Roy Peanuts & Memorial fit given that the 1955S seems the least loved of all the IH jeans.

(This is partly self interested as I'm hoping that IH will make the 1955S in other denims, which can only happen if the cut gets more popular...)

Freshly laundered chambray from 22/9/2012 still going strong 6+ years on... love this faithful old shirt... think there were only 45 made so must have had lucky fingers on sale day... (forgive the phone flash pics in failing winter light)...

There's a lot more to patterning that determines how jeans look and fit far beyond the basic measurements we refer to. Even though the Roy's and IH's share very similar basic measurements, I find the fits to be quite different. The 1955 seems like a good idea on paper, but some how misses the mark for me. I don't get why IH describe it as their interpretation of 501's from 1955; I'm no Levi's historical fanatic, but they don't seem to resemble any 501's to me. IH's higher-rise cuts have too much hip flare on my frame.

Here are comparison pics of Roy Memorial size 34 and IH-1955-UHR size 34, both fully shrunk. I sold the Memorial 34's and copped a pair of R01 32's. The 1955 in 32 31 would suit me better; heck, I could maybe even go down to a 31...  but no, not interested...

So is this the same black seed he used for the test lot and memorials? Or a new denim? The rinsed unsanforized throws me off.

Too rich for my blood so I’ll be passing but I like the black buttons.

When I was in SESF the other day, it was mentioned that the cut would have more of a taper than the Memorial and Test Lot jeans, but looking at those measurements it really doesn't seem like it. Funny, either way, how they chose to size the pair for the model fits—they look wayyyyy baggier than in any other pictures I've seen.

@ecsong187, it's the usual (unsanforized) Black Seed denim, but has been rinsed by Roy post-construction. Nothing confusing there. Agreed on the black buttons, though: those look great.

A little bit of helping talking me into or out of these.  How does the black seed denim breathe? Would I be punishing myself as much as I think wearing these in the Florida heat?

Also, I've seen different sizing advice on the cut but given the high rise and large all around measurements is sizing down one or two safe even with the amount of shrinkage expected? I usually shoot for something between a 32-33 waist and was thinking a 32 with a hot wash or two would be good... although I've never had something with this kind of rise and I wouldn't want them falling down...
