Am re-Watching The Misfits (1961) as l type, and am still amazed at Clarke Gable in his Lee Westerner tux. Only the second time in old films ever, that l've seen a Lee Westerner jacket and pants worn together (Paul Newman in Hud' (1962) being the other). Always like Lee jackets more so than Levis one's. They just always seemed to be ahead of the game design wise, and the fit was always more tailored. Even on the repros.

It's a great film, ive got it on dvd...tis like Denim Porn Hub ;)

So l love film, especially last century stuff.  l particularly like to record and watch old colour/black and white films from the 30's, 40's and 50's. Basically anything with (the chance of seeing) denim in it, especially old Levis. Ask @Flash l'm always banging on about stuff l've spotted and boring him to death ;)

Anyway, long story short, watched 'War of the Wildcats' (film released 1943) - a western where oil is discovered yadda yadda. Bit boring tbh but enough denim to keep me awake. Even 2 of the injuns were wearing bucklebacks.

So excuse the pic quality, click on the image for clearer version)

John Wayne and his oil foreman both wearing WW2 Levis. No coin pocket rivets (or crotch rivets) and no arcs. They wear these throughout and they eventually get covered in oil :( but  anyway.. JW trying to get his hands in his front pockets reminds me of my Conners :D

Later, JW dons another pair which are cleaner but also have coin pocket rivets and arcs. In 1943 !!??

Went over this film with a fine tooth comb and the last pic is the clearest pic of the pair with the arcs but they are def painted on WW2 style (no d/s diamond), yet they have coin pocket rivets in 1943. So a real rarity l guess?

Anyway, carry on..

Very cool to see mate , especially the painted arcs . I remember there being a near deadstock  s501xx in the 501xx book with coin pocket rivets but no trace of arcs

Edit .... or was it a 46 501xx with no arcs ???? Cont be sure if I'm honest , been a while since I looked at the book

First(AFAIK) recorded in movie film of denim jeans worn in Singapore. Jeans likely made before 1950, there are back pocket rivets & back cinch. This Malay movie was filmed in Singapore, by Shaw Brothers in 1955. As I’m not a native Malay language speaker I can’t fully understand the dialog.

Oomslokop, you’ll be the best person to fully appreciate this film, enjoy!
