Vintage Denim?

Recommended Posts

Very nice Ryan! Looking forward to see them in person.
When looking at the washed pairs, you know why e.g. Warehouse denim looks like it looks (or most other Japanese repro brands) and you can't believe why LVC looks so "flat" in comparisson.
But then I see your deadstock pair and think: that's more the look of LVC jeans :D

Well have a good vintage chat over some pizza and beers mate ;)

yeah the ds early 70’s definitely had a flatter denim , you can really feel that there was a drop in quality towards the end of the big e era ... the 50’s pairs hardware feels so much more solid compared to the later pair

Found these pics digging around on the berberjin blog archive ( I do this a lot :D )

First up is a 506xx from around 1933 , what makes it particularly interesting is the NRA tag ... rare enough to see (a pic ) one attached to some 501xx but I cant say I've ever seen one attatched to a type 1 jacket

Next is a dual coloured stitched s501xx

wrong thread; but is there one for hickory stripe?

a follow up to finding a nice denim oshkosh b'gosh strap-back pair last year (perhaps from 50s)...

... found what seems to be a fairly old hickory stripe vestbak... [in the back of a vintage store, they hadn't tagged / priced it yet, I whisked it out of there asap... smelt like it had been near some pretty nasty chemicals in its time...]

searching the internet seems pretty fruitless for dating it (vestbak as a term brings up the multitude of baby-wear the company has been concentrating on since the 90s...) but sharing it nonetheless...

... the only dating factor I can think of is hardware and the union-made tag in the bag left pocket [which to my minimal knowledge places it between 1955 (when my shoddy research informs me AFL and CIO merged as unions) and when oshkosh stopped making adult clothes; some time in the 90s]; anyone have any idea about to look further on tags? finding some things on AFL-CIO tags but not specific to oshkosh...

... anyway; pics, stitching, hardware, fit (already posted, but to keep it all in one place), etc. etc.

Think here is just fine mate , great to be able to find vintage for a good deal . A few months back ( a good few , cant remember exactly ) I found a denim POW cap for £20 , didnt buy it though because of what it was ... didnt really few comfortable owning something with a story like that behind it

@bartlebyyphonics Going by the black label it's probably from the 1970's. Earlier versions of the black label had B'gosh tilted in the bottom right corner and "Union made sanforized" on the left.

Edit: Great looking piece, by the way!

nice: thanks for the confirmation on that @Bobbo - really helpful...

I hadn't looked closely at the front labels, was looking at the back pocket union made ones instead - ooops!

[70s would seem about right for the pocket bags also: feels like they are not all natural fibre... ]

pix of the two different types...

Had decent lighting the other day. So here's some new pics of my battered 60's Lee 81-LJ and 50's Levi's 507XX.

@MJF9 Thanks mate, I'm also real happy with my buddy Johan's work on the jacket.

Probably won't fix the Lee. It's too big for me. More of a collection piece that I got cheap for 20€.

Nice pair but he is changing his arm at that price , could get some 50's leather patch Levi's in great condition for that

Yeah I agree, price is a bit high. Just thought they looked cool, I like seeing  vintage pairs aside from Levi’s sometimes.

^^Yes, very interesting. To my untrained eye you can see why Levi's have been considered the gold standard for quality. The Foremost look to be underengineered, especially around the back pockets and the lack of a chainstitched waistband.

Can somebody help me date this Type III Jacket I got from a Flea Market? It was 20$, too small for me but will see how my girlfriend fits in it. Almost deadstock condition. Buttons stamped "350". Care label looks interesting aswell. Definitely post 1971. The collar looks pretty 70s though.
