frute 'happy' socks

How about some thick wool socks, any under $20/pair? in packs?

yeah i need this too. looking at some woolrich, seen some pretty thick chunky ones, but its sometimes hard to tell looking online.

whats the deal on extreme cold weather sock layering?

superfine thin one to wick moisture underneath a chunky wooly one to keep out the snow and such?

For extreme cold weather (Like, below -40), best possible combo is high silk sock/stocking, followed by close fitting wool sock (think tech wool ski socks) then follow with heavier layer wool.

I usually go to AJ Wright to find cool socks for cheap (amongst other things).

I got 3 pack polo neon bamboo dress socks and 2 pack wool hiking socks both for 8 bucks two nights ago

Add on a Hanes zip up sweatshirt and I was out the door for 12 bucks.

Falke is excellent imo. I was introduced to them when I was looking for good socks for running, after that I have been using them regularly.

i picked up the heattech 2pack & on 1st wear i wasn't convinced but after a wash they seemed to work pretty well.

also, the camp/hiking socks that jcrew sell are good, esp when they mark them down. last winter think they went down to $5-$6.

not sure what your concept of extreme is but when i was buying ski boots dude laughed at the thin/chunky concept as being really dated. he said the key factor in heat retention is to keep your foot dry and that thick socks tended to just suck up moisture in active situations.

for non-performance circumstances i'm kind of trending towards a single layer of mid-weight heat-tech which seems to work fine
