Maybe someone can help me out here. I've been to Texas a few times over the past year, mainly because of the fact that I have family that lives down there and while the Mexican there is good, I feel that it is missing something.

What's the major difference between Texas Mexican and California Mexican food if there any differenance?

haven't been to michocan in a while. thanks for the reminder.

Man, last time I went to Michocan, my burrito was so greasy it tore the bag I was carrying it in! Haven't been back since.

Haven't been to Mexicali since they went brick and mortar, but will def. vouch for Guisados. Love their torta place too (think I mentioned it in this thread before?).

Guisados has a torta place? Gotta get on that. Mexicali has a limited menu, so I don't think much has changed from the truck. Regardless, I'm with the Vampiro (quesadilla with garlic sauce) + fried egg all day

yeah, i'll be greasy and shit, but i just want to go for the nostalgic factor, have to go with old friends. i'll probably regret it later.

san diego california burrito recs?

recently went to lolita's in sd

it was not as good as i remembered... :(

they stuffed my burrito with too many fries and the meat wasn't all that great

also, "best fish taco in ensenada" probably has the best horchata i've ever had...

perfectly balanced, no 'chalky' flavor.

Lucha Libre prob makes my favorite Cali burrito. Surfin California, flank steak marinated in lime juice, fat shrimp, fries that hold up and don't get too soggy, avocado, chipotle mayo sauce, and top it off woth an amazing mint cilantro sauce from their salsa bar. there are like a dozen salsas and at least half are really good.

never been too much of a fan of the california burrito. i dont hate it, but i dont really go out of my way to order it. in SD i usually get machaca cuz its more common down there for some reason. and its fucken delicious. cant really vouch for any place in particular cuz its been a long time since ive been back but i used to like la fuentes machaca in hillcrest back when it was a total chunti shack.

for horchata in califoofie, i like panchitas #2 in sf. its a salvadorean joint and they keep a pitcher of homemade horchata in the fridge with all kinds of herbal grit up in it. super legit.

in LA i like the oaxacan horchata smoothie thing at guelaguetza. its pink and has oatmeal and shit in it.

yo I cosign on LUCHA LIBRE's surfin' california. that is what dreams are made of. although I wish the fries were crispier.

but for the classic california burrito taste, VALLARTA's (get it quesoburrito style) is unbeatable. that is the best cali burrito you'll ever have. lolita's is an EZ pass.

anyone fuck with TINGA in LA? it's not your hole-in-the-wall, dirty cali mex spot. its more of an 'upscale'/gourmand's mexican interpretation. their pork nachos are really fucking good.

Lucha Libre is overrated imo.

La Posta on the same street up the hill is way better, but my favorite place in sd is Salsa Fiesta on 30th and Lincoln. The fries in the cali burrito are crisp.

oh shit la posta n8 forgot all about that spot. one of the few joints in the neighborhood open 24hrs. that lucha libre spot used to be called valentinos or valentines something like that, and they had legit grub way back when.
