GorillavsBear: A blog that's always on top of shit.

Pitchfork: Not much to say here... if you don't know this site you don't have an internet connection.

No Pain in Pop: Another blog.

and of course

HIPSTER RUNOFF: I only mention this because the guy literally named the genre Chillwave. Horrible name I know, but it has stuck.

worst genre name ever (even crimsonwave)

that said, i enjoy me some ducktails, gary war, wet hair, ganglians, and kurt vile

not sure if they are all technically "chillwave/glo-fi" and frankly i wish they weren't part of such a dumb genre name if they are, oh well

i heard a track not too long ago by some dude Beach Fossils and it was alright, got an ep and full length coming out soon on woodsist or something, could be worth checking out but i dunno

actually pre-ordered Seek Magic after I heard Bicycle, amazing album (came with a bonus cd that has a 30 min long track which is also fantastic). Memery Casette/Weird Tapes/Memory Tapes - it's all good; heard he has a psychedelic girl group album coming.

Still haven't got round to listening to Washed Out's EP, but Neon Indian was great I thought, underwater vibes.

Neon Indian worth checking out live? They got a free show on Thurs w Crystal Castles.

not worth it, crystal castles is always horrible live. neon indian might be alright, but it really isn't worth the effort or time.

and for the record, i think chillwave is a hilarious name because of how stupid it is.

memory tapes/washed out are awesome, in my opinion. pulls from so many reference points to churn out this really queasy, off-sounding, slightly-danceable, totally locationless space music that transports you where ever you end up associating the sounds youre hearing with.

You know most of the material released under the 'Memory Cassette' moniker was recorded 10 years ago? I think he has a huge amount of talent, hope he and acephale realise this.

It's a bit odd though, that he gives away a lot of his music away for free on his blog, even tracks from the album.

this music is mediocre at best

all of it

nothing breaks out of its own little conceptual bubble

just runs over the same old ground over and over again.

hee hee

Wow I didn't know that. I knew that he has been around for a while under various names like Weird Tapes, Memory Cassette etc but I didn't know he was doin it for that long.

I've been lookin for some sort of timeline on the guy (something akin to a wikipedia history page) but with no luck.

Just his blog: WE'RE TAPES

quoi?!

he's also a stay-at-home dad, right?

that is so tight. i still can't get over that new order-esque guitar line at the end of "bicycle."
