Jesus -Z- your street photography is amazing (all caps there).

Here is today from the warp and weft shoot.

What the set-up primarily consisted of.

to end the day though I picked this up from the city. I am waiting to be able to eat it!

-z- thanks for sharing your pictures and stories. read every word of it and really enjoyed them as always. must be hard watching all the reunions while being thousands of miles aways from your daughter. when do you end your stint in china? glad you will be heading back for a good week. btw, i thought it was a fantastic decision on your part to exclude the touristy stuff. really engaging set.

on saturday i took it pretty easy - shot a bit of film (portra 400), went to capoeira, and took a meandering walk home.

Gowanus is a surprisingly industrial area of Brooklyn, especially considering that it's surrounded by some pretty intensely residental areas.

my 660s (summer/ winter biking/ all biking jawns) went with me on a nice ride in the beautiful, 65 degree weather today around the Schuylkill river in philadelphia. a nice 25 or 30 mile ride. it was great to get out for a good ride.

Schuylkill at East Falls, up the river from the Philadelphia Museum of Art and my bike (i know, it's pretty hip) with the falls bridge in the background.

this is pulled directly from my blog, which, i do not normally do here...but i felt, as i had been adapting recent blog posts and ideas into wayjdt posts, that i would just place a fully formed piece here, as well. for light viewing, ignore the opening paragraphs, the images speak for themselves, for how i have interpreted them, read on...

6828228553_12dbc52770_z.jpg

...photography from January 29th 2012, as i walked east from Fuchengmen station to houhai lake through the streets of Beijing, China. edited early, in the near emptiness of american airlines 186 from beijing to chicago.

6828229775_43b0b59a75_z.jpg

leaving behind the yet alien environment of china, though for a moment, i felt somewhat more detached from what had been real for almost 26 years than i had anticipated. standing, oblique to a small queue at o'hare international clutching a sugar free red bull (a feeble attempt at re-energizing after having spent the previous 13 hours thumbing through the digital pages of 'norwegian wood', and the opening chapters of 'the wind up bird chronicle') i stared, transfixed by the process of creating a cup of expresso. beans, into the grinder, a mechanical whir, tapping of the plastic against a metal crucible of sorts while the grounds are packed, locked into place as a quick flow of water cascades down through into a waiting, off white cup, onto the dish, counter, exchange of currency, register till slams open, faint bell a reminder of, money and then...i am left clutching a sugar free red bull staring transfixed by what had been the process of creating a cup of expresso.

6828230331_55a1b555aa_z.jpg

the barista, a woman in her late 30's, perhaps a shade younger despite a deepening yield to three small furrows along her brow brushed a fallen stand of hair from her face as she and i made eye contact for the first time. '$4.85 she said', as i continued to drag through a temporary stasis, she looked me over, and drawing out her initial impression of how strange i must have appeared, presented physically, then, thickened slowly, leading her to crack a bewildered half-smile and repeat her former plea for me to re-gain my reality and get the now lengthening line behind me set into motion. '4.85, sir?' she mouthed again, this time it caught, vaguely, somewhere, though obscured, still, by any number of things...language, thirteen hours spent in the dark fuselage of a 777 traversing half of the earth to end up here, in line at the most unassuming of places to lose one's head. as my right hand reached for my wallet i could feel that i was still expressionless, holding my arm out, my left, in it still the cold, small 8.4oz aluminum can.

6828230879_32806a57e6_z.jpg

in this position something finally managed to turn over, and again, again...the moisture beading slightly on the surface, dampening my fingers and palm. the motion, repeated thousands of times into what is natural, right arm back, down, into your pocket, thumb, index and middle finger grab the smooth aged texture of your wallet, pull it forward and out to open it. I opened the bifold with one hand, remembered placing US currency in the front of two slender pockets, RMB in the rear. presenting currency adorned by a face other than that of mao zedong, lincoln, the barista quickly relieved me of it and again, the metallic tin of a register opening, the slide of its track as it closes quickly and two coins placed back in my palm to set me on my way.

6828231335_a6c1873a85_z.jpg

meandering across the terminal to gate G3 i found a seat in relative isolation to those around me. an equally tired, through not as lost looking man sit to my left and behind, digging feverishly into his kindle. to my right, across the aisle, a couple expecting a child, looking, from what i recall a typical midwestern couple to look like. unassuming, average in looks and size, casually dressed in light jeans, both of them, white trainers, collegiate hoodies. Each had a parka thrown over their carry on, muted colors, columbia, perhaps, maybe north face. the man wore cropped bright red hair and a matching winter beard, the woman's face graced by thin wire frame glasses, one hand, made unique only by its precious gold band and solitaire lain casually in her husband's, the other on her child-to-be. both looking down with the tiniest of smiles breaking as they wait for flight 3977 to Cedar Rapids, IA.

6828231833_2ecbdf4bde_z.jpg

quickly, twenty minutes departed, a smile, 'thank you', to the gate operator as i moved down the boarding walkway towards a minute embraer 135 waiting on a damp, late winter tarmac. head room being somewhere at or below six feet made it a less than enjoyable embarkation, along with it, leg room to match that sentiment. however a cabin of 10 travelers, and an enamoring flight attendant compensated well for my initial discomfort. as the final vapors of my detachment drug behind like a shadow, the woman beside me began to speak. a mother of three, wife, with a husband in pittsburgh and an interview in Cedar Rapids, hoping to move back home, alleviate some small piece of what i, too had been feeling as i journeyed back. to coalesce into something concrete that would always stand. home, is and will always be that place. hearing her story, speaking, listening, engaging another, set the lingering dark still clutching me skidding off. six thousand six hundred and five miles apart from where i end and where i began, and again to head back into the depths of it in a week, now, hopefully with more clarity of where that place resides within this whole.

6828232311_c6b28de66a_z.jpg

returning to the united states, having only been away from what i knew to be home for 7 months. the experience of moving through a space that now felt, slightly different and more foreign that it had, in the past comfortable and understandable, left me with a sort of inability to interact, simply observing what happened around me was enough sensory shock. as i spend time at home, the feelings quickly disappear, a resounding calm and solidity returning where they should be. yet when i look at these images from my last days out in beijing before my flight home i cannot help but see some of that darkness here, something, else, that makes me feel as if i exist between these two planes, losing traction on one, perhaps both, i cannot say...however i know there is a lingering distance growing on either side of the expanse, laid out beyond the decisions i have already made...

6828232875_0857d7427a_z.jpg

growing older, it seems, is not without its sense of mystery...

I had a business trip to Philadelphia last month. It happened to coincide with mine and my wife's first anniversary so I brought her along and we stayed a few extra days to take in the sights (and eat the food)....

^^^^ Rainy day in Philly. Warm though. We walked around the city for about 6 hours that day. Saw some cool sights:

Last weekend I took a trip down south to Indonesia, jakarta, for a mixed draft division 1 ice hockey tournament.

I was pretty tired lugging my bag around so I took a break.

IMG_2771.jpg

this guy found an interesting substitute to a turbo for his friend's bike.

IMG_2507.jpg

It rained pretty hard in kemang, due to the poor drainage system, we had a flooded road to wade through. the model's expression describes ours succinctly.

IMG_2519.jpg

more interesting sights along the way.

IMG_2510.jpg

finally the denim vault!

IMG_2522.jpg

The owner of denim vault, vincent, was kind enough to meet me up for coffee at the rink, to discuss an upcoming project with hall of fade. he stayed to watch part of my game too.

IMG_3483.jpg

7 hours of sleep for the whole weekend, lots of partying, lots of food and alcohol. to top it all off, my team won division champions. it was a perfect weekend.

SG Post. Was debating whether to post this here, but hey nobody hates photos of good food right?

Headed out to Roland Restaurant for mom's bday dinner today. Had to call in a reservation because this place is packed as sh*t on weekends. Dad's friend opened this place a few years back and the food is to die for. Its located at marine parade central~

DSC01659.jpg

its been 3 weeks in for both my rw8131s and RC424xx,

the leather is starting to not hurt my feet already 8)

DSC01656.jpg

DSC01660.jpgDSC01663.jpg

Roland Restaurant is located among a residential estate and

the restaurant itself is on the top floor of a carpark

DSC01666.jpg

Family photo before the dinner, dont know why my shirt so messed up LOL. Funfact: Korean auntie is wearing true religion.

Continued: The first few dishes were the black sauce prawns and stirfried asparagus with japanese mushrooms. Sadly they were all gone by the time i was back from the washroom > :(

Next up was the fruit fish, texture is slightly more chewy than cod and resembles a catfish. This fish eats nothing but pears and other fruits

DSC01675.jpg

Followed by their classic pork ribs with special chef sauce

which was pulled apart even before i could take a photo..

DSC01678.jpg

Lastly was their signature crabs. The boss of this place (Roland, lol) is the son of the founders of the original chilli crab in 1956. Both he and his younger brother opened this restaurant and preserved the original recipes.

Chilli Crab, with lots of crumbled roe mixed and cooked inside the gravy. You dont find this much.

DSC01681.jpg

Salted egg and cereal crab, smells like cereal prawns but with more bite

DSC01680.jpg

Lastly the cake secretly brought over from Four Leaves with bad penmanship

DSC01685.jpg

Complimentary Orh-ngee (Yam paste dessert)

DSC01691.jpg

Photo with parents after the hugeass meal, can see a little tummy already

photofun-2825520689.jpg

If you guys have the chance, you really must go try the food. I can honestly say its the best crab ive ever eaten so far and the servings are damn generous as well

Hiked up to the Henninger camp grounds with my friends for a night. Managed to catch the sunset. You can see downtown Los Angeles if you look in the right place. You can also see the ocean wayyyyy out reflecting the sun. Neat place, definitely going back again soon.

Went to Evisu (International) at Boxpark yesterday. Took a couple of shots. Tried the 2010 No.3. Fits pretty nicely but didn't buy it. Skeptical about the denim and construction quality.

Visited Selfridges's denim section. Took some pictures of the N&F. Pretty much overpriced but got to see and feel the 32oz. Pretty cool.

^ Absolutely beautiful view of LA simon

Im back with more photos of food haha, I really should be going on a diet soon

Today's hit is at the Marina Mandarin hotel in Singapore, nice lil chinese restaurant called Peach Blossom.

DSC01738.jpg

Helped myself to a glass of red wine. Fun little fact, notice anything out of the ordinary with the table setting?

Two pairs of chopsticks. The left pair is for your own use and the red pair is for you to pick food up to give guests.

DSC01753-1.jpg

First dish up was the Beijing Peking duck, nowhere near Beijing standards but pretty good nonetheless.

Rolled into a homemade wheatflour skin with cucumber, spring onion and a special tangy sauce, the flavour and texture is unlike anything else.

DSC01758.jpgDSC01759.jpg

Followed by fried prawns in caviar and wasabi mayo sauce and a sweet and sour soup with mushroom, bamboo stalk and prawns.

DSC01769.jpgDSC01770.jpg

Braised broccoli with scallop and ee-fu noodles with huge chunks of fresh crab and roe

DSC01773.jpgDSC01776.jpg

The leftover duck from the peking duck was cut into cubes and stirfried with mushrooms to be wrapped again

DSC01777.jpg

Cant complete a meal without a pretty girl right?
