i am ignorant on the issue - what do they do different to a normal, $1 keyring from a locksmith? obviously they are made by hand in japan etc, is that what justifies such a higher cost?

It's better because it's more expensive.

ed: but really, it's because it's made by hand, and replacing mass produced objects by storied, handmade objects feels really good. That mundane little key ring is something that you're going to see and handle several times every day, what better place to spend some money than on something you interact with on the regular like that?

I've lost two sets of keys from broken rings, so if they're strong and look cool, they're worth it to me.

I'm not one for ostentatious or many precious things, but not losing your keys on something nice to hold is a good object to spend on!

Received my Altadena Works split ring today! Looks awesome, love the smiley emoticon engraved near the top.

Just noticed Self Edge finally got a restock on the Flat Head version of this too (wish I had gotten that one to go with my FH Key Hook, oh well, too late)...
