waist is no issue at all right now. I wear them without a belt so the waistband can stretch out as much as needed and the jeans are able to sag like they want. Still a size 36 would have worked but fit right now is how I like it. And enough room to move and not contraditcing like my 66XX or the Pikebrothers were
