just picked these up. at first i thought they might be the nandoxnando's that i've been looking for but then i figured they were more likely sorahiko suminando black overdyed. now that i have them in hand they are more blue than i expected. anyone have any idea what they could be?

Hey chantheman, I have 2 pairs of NandoxNando; one raw and one pair worn/washed. After checking the leather patch, somewhat richer/softer indigo blue color and grayish reclining R on the back pocket, I believe that yours are Nandos. Also, the cotton is different from typical jeans denim; softer to the touch. I am somewhat hesitant, though, because your inside photos look grayish although it may just be the light.  I have included 2 shots of my worn/washed pair for you to compare. At any rate, nice pickup!

the shade is the same. the selvedge looks the same the only thing that is off is when i was looking at the selvedge, the denim is a different shade. its almost a grey tint compared to the scrap from 10 years ago.

either way im happy with the purchase. cut is a little looser than i would like but I just need to get them hemmed and i think i can work with it (glad 45rpm does free hemming)

I emailed 45rpm Japan yesterday and they said the following.

Thank you for your message.
I think that this denim is probably "Suminando × TOP Sorahiko".
(墨納戸×トップ空比古)
The product number is 4096009.

not sure what the top sorahiko model was but I trust Lance and the pics he provided along with my comparison. Just interesting to see their opinion of the photos I sent them.

Edit - 45rpm NY said that they are nando nando.

should be Nando x Nando.

here are some older pics of my pair:

From your pictures and description, that pair looks a lot like my Sumi x top Sorahiko: lighter fabric than the regular Nando (10oz maybe?), the grey tint inside, and a rich dark blue that fades to a greencast grey.  If I remember well, the warp is nando and the weft threads are dyed in sumi ink.

any pics of your pair? curious how they fade. they do feel pretty lightweight so i'm still not 100% sure what they are but either i need to get them hemmed and possibly tapers a little since they are a little loose for my liking.

That's the best I can do right now. Honestly, it took me a while to really like them. They go through an ugly stage between 2-6 months, but they've since become my favorite pair.

@Broark Nice pair, man! Are those the new/current production Sorahikos? ‘Curious how they differ, as compared to previous productions.

45rpm tend to tweak the fit from time to time ... eg, earlier productions [pre-2008] were more generous at the top block, iirc.

Can u post measurements, whenever u get a chance, please ... Thanx!

‘Bought a pair of Sorahiko 2010 at their NYC upper westside store when it came out. They were an updated, slimmer version, w/c fit me real nicely.  But, for some insane reason I returned them ... 1 of 3 denim decisions that regret to this day:(

@BrownMetallic I'm not sure how to put a date on the pair I got, bought them from Yahoo Auctions.
I'm guessing they might be older due to being quite straight legged? If anyone has any ways of figuring out manufacturing date let me know.
I'll get some measurements soon!

‘Thing w/Sorahikos, it’s hard to determine the year, aside from the obvious, date of receipt from the store:D  & actual measurements, if known ... eg, I think I may still have the measurements of the 2010 Sorahikos I returned.

I walked past the 45 rpm or 45r shop in London this afternoon. I didn’t go in but it looked quite nice. It’s on Brook Street, opposite Fenwicks if anyone is interested and I think it’s very newly opened.

This shirt along with a pair of Jomon jeans with sterling silver hardware were the first items of clothing I bought from R by 45RPM at the end of 20004 beginning of 2005. Back then, they sent the jeans back to Japan to have the hardware changed! I liked the shirt so much that I immediately bought a second one which is new, unworn in my stash.

As can be seen, I’ve worn this shirt to shreds; it’s my favorite. Notice the scar on the right shoulder repaired by a local seamstress who also did the best she could with the placket.

I wore a hole in the right sleeve and sent it back to the Soho store. The seamstress used a beautiful sashiko stitch. Notice her hand stitching running along the length of the patch.

jeez, where did everybody go? Last post, other than Bobbo, was 16hours ago by JDelage! Well, here’s a couple of pics of some R by 45RPM stuff worn and not worn.

indigo dyed broadcloth shirt with a couple of interesting details. Full stitching all along the button side placket, a red detail/selvage all along the button hole placket and an inside pocket right side (not shown).

Left to right, indigo dyed shirt, washed and worn Jomon from 2005 w/sterling silver hardware (SS hardware), unworn raw Jomon from 2008 w/SS hardware, worn Jomon from 2005 w/SS hardware and unworn O/W Aihiko from 2008 w/SS hardware. Shows variations in color of worn and unworn Ai dyed indigo.

An indigo dyed stripe shirt from the original R by 45RPM showing the whimsical details they brought to much of their clothing.

A large, off kilter pocket with their signature red R dangling from stitching, mismatched design/color buttons and 2 button cuffs with placket button.

Two pairs of Aihiko jeans from the original R by 45RPM. The Zimbabwe cotton Aihiko jeans are Ai dyed, yarn dipped 24 times, a straight cut with a fairly tight top block. The purple hue of the Aihiko dye is evident in both pairs, softer, more evident in the well worn pair. The pair on the right is O/W which I have yet to wear. The pair on the left has been worn, washed and at some point, the legs were tapered. Both pairs have sterling silver buttons and rivets. I cannot take credit for the well worn pair. I bought them on eBay for $10 US; I couldn’t resist even though I couldn’t fit in a size 32 in my wildest dreams!

Hey Spiraltoy, I’ve been buying from the Soho store and the UES store (when it existed) since end of 04 beginning of 05. I do not recognize the label so it’s pre 04/05. I emailed Sonoko at the Soho store and she will be in touch with Japan to see if anyone recognizes it; I’ll let you know.

edit. 7:20 PM EST 2/4/2020. Well Spiraltoy, I just heard from Sonoko. The approximate year of offer with that label is 1998 era. Hope this helps, not too late.

@lance thanks! That’s far and beyond nice! I’m on the lookout for a red sweatshirt that’ll fade to that nice vintage faded red You sometimes see on sweatshirts. Found this on a  online marketplace.

White selvage is typical of 45r, the present iteration of R by 45rpm, so possibly a newer version I’m not familiar with; mine are from the R by 45rpm Soho store purchased in 2006. It’s worth your time to find the UMII 908 like these as they have cool details, a great straight cut and 100% Suvin cotton which has a wonderful hand! If I run across a pair in your size, I’ll let you know.

edit  And too, these are Ai dyed, yarn hand dipped  in natural indigo 24 times.
