I had a spyder jacket that used thinsulate and it was suprisingly warm. prolly one of my favorite winter coats at the time. warmth wise I think its about the same but I like thinsulate because they usually are made with waterproof shells and such unlike wool fabric. but then again I dunno what type of jackets ur getting

Just a quick q.

Is thinsulate really that warm? Or is it just a gimmick?

And would appreciate if someone can tell me whether wool or thinsulate is warmer

Thinsulate isn't a gimmick. It works well. Compact, very good insulation for it's weight. Nice for hats, boots, thin jackets.

Comparing it to wool is a bit vague. What type of wool? What weight of wool? etc

Wool's great. Although bear in mind it's hydrophilic - so it soaks up water & gets heavy, and takes quite a lot of energy to dry out compared to Thinsulate.

Both good. Depends what you're looking for.

Polyfill is like a synthetic down not as warm as Primaloft

but the same principle. very lofty to trap air for insulation.

to answer your ? it is warm.

Thinsulate is also very warm but does not have the loft

of other materials its benefit is that it's less bulky and also

wicks very well. Hence it's use mostly in gloves and shoes.
