Japanese Shoe Sizes

I'm buying a Japanese sneaker that has the size in cm.

My foot measures exactly 26cm. The seller recommends going down a size (0.5cm).

Do Japanese shoe sizes in cm really correspond to the size of the foot in cm?

Do they normally fit a bit large or just exactly? Should I buy size 26cm or 25.5cm?

Hey Geowu,

Based on my experience with Japanese shoe sizes, I would actually recommend you go up a 0.5 cm. I usually have a rule of thumb of size 41, 26.5 is equivalent to 9 in US standard. But then again, my feet are wide, so its a catch 22.

If they are sneakers, I think you should be ok then. I know when I purchased tailored / dress shoes, they were too tight. But I think you should be fine.

sizing totally depends on each shoe or maker and not really whether they are japanese. What shoe is it?

yeah - sizing is dependent on the brand...

i have a pair of japanese sneakers, and they're HUGE!! i could have went down a full size comfortably.

So did I! Until I bought a pair of 42s here and they were too big. The other posters are right though, its really dependant on the shoe maker and the type of shoe.
