Imperial Jeans

I hot soaked my black Kings for 2 hours and then dried them for the day. The jeans shrank about a half an inch in length and nada around the waist. Took them to the tailor a few days ago and just got them back after having them tapered (from 9.5 to 8.5) and hemmed. They look great! I'll post pics as soon as I can.

interesting idea on the taper, the leg opening does seem a little bigger than id like on waist sizes >30

33W Kings. Had the jeans tapered from knee inseam down to 8.5 opening. Also hemmed down to a 32 inseam in case I want to cuff the jeans (I normally wear a 30).

why don't you guys just buy dukes instead of kings? it's easier than getting kings and tapering them to fit closer to dukes.

I don't think they're trying to get the dukes fit. It's just that King's leg opening is too big for them.

valhalla, some of us guys don't fit into Dukes (thigh area of main concern) and like the look of the Imperials. So we settled on the Kings.

I'm going to get them tapered, they drag on some of the shoes I wear.

I'd say get a 33, but no bigger..

The 33 will measure to be about 34" in the waist which means they will in no way be tight. But keep in mind these don't shrink much because they're sanforized.

also keep in mind though the waist is tight, its the thigh on the dukes which makes em feel slim and tight

As much as I love my dukes, it still annoys me that they have such a large leg opening. The only shoes they really suit due to this are hype beasty sneakers or big boots, niether of which I wear anymore.

Its a shame because out of the 6 pairs of 'premium denim' that I own, the Imperials are still my favourite in terms of material, build quality and colour. I just hope they decide to make a slimmer version.

Yes, because they're sanforized...

from what people have said about soaking, the hem only seems to come up an inch or so. Since they're sanforized, would it seem pretty safe to hem closer to your actual desired length?

^^^I would say so. Soak your jeans before you hem to your desired length. All of the shrinkage should be taken care of with your initial soak.

I've got a pair of black dukes that seem to resist wear. I've worn them every day since I got them at the start of the year and they are pretty tough to break. I'm impressed some people managed to squeeze fades out of these.

I doubt you'll get much in the way of stacking from Kings; bootcuts were designed to minimise that feature (it's only recently that it seems to have become desirable...not into it myself). Mine do have something going on down there, though, from being caught out in the rain a few times. Maybe if you gave the the cuff area a bit of a soak and let it scrunch up a bit as you walk around it would help...like you'd just splashed through a puddle. Silly, but hey, we suffer for our art.

And the black denim...yeah. Reminds me of tthat childhood saying "shake and shake the ketchup bottle...nothing comes...and then a lot'll"...One day you'll look down in bright sunlight and realise that what you thought were just the crests of your creases are in fact a lighter shade of grey..and some of those vertical threads are actually almost white...and some of the little bastards have worn right through aand you've got holes happening before you ever thought you had a fade....heh.

My next pair of denim i'd like to get are Black Dukes. Them being 38 length kinda does scare me because i look good in 34L alraedy

Did the thigh shrink at all for anyone? My dukes fit almost perfect but I wish they were a tad bit slimmer. I'm a little reluctant to soak if it will not make a difference.

LIVENUDEGIRLS, save the starch. dont soak them.

i was hoping for some shrinkage when i hot soaked mine.

but the dimensions were more or less the same.
