it's made from cotton chambray with threads that are both black and off white - hence the term salt n pepper. collectors also call it black chambray. it has the same weight as blue chambray. hope that helps.

CZ, Thats a really dope shirt. I actually enjoy chambray shirts thats not the usual blue. Red chambray is probably my favorite color. Are there any vintage work shirts made from different color chambray's or that just a modern twist?

thx man. there could've been others but i've only seen salt n pepper and blue chambray in my vintage hunting. the salt n pepper was also very practical for the worker who was around oil and grease as it hides small stains quite well.

wait, the warp and weft are both black and off white in the salt and pepper chambray?

would assume so. take a look at the close up photos of the collar and pocket and you can see the alternating white and black threads.

i have posted some pics from the 40s with red work shirts. cant say if they are chambrays, although i think most were salt and pepper and blue, still there were some real black ones and brown and tan colored ones too. as far as i can can tell from pics of that time.
