HP, Toshiba, Sony. Make sure you check out warranty.. it's different for each brand (and product line!).

I use the firefox browser with a Vaio and Norton antivirus - never had problems shit infecting my PC, even witht the sicko shit I browse daily!

lovin my Japanese market Vaio Type A - do everything on it - internet, work, games, TV, video, PS2, Saturn (AV in and out supported). Its a widey too for a lot less than a widescreen apple.

Apple products are overpriced. They look gorgeous though.

Still, if you look at specs only, the price of a Powerbook can get you a Windows notebook with better specs. Period.

I have a VAIO S170, it's relatively new with a slick case. But I don't like it because I carry it everywhere, and the build quality is unbearable, squeaky everything. Anyway, because of that reason, i'm going to be getting an IBM either the Z or the T43 over christmas.

Moral of the story, Sony laptops suck if you're going to be traveling alot imho. And my recommendation is whatever you get, make sure you get warranty beyond the standard 1 year or if there's an option for extended warranty, get that, I highly recommend it.

I'd absolutely suggest a PowerBook as well. They might be more expensive then a comparable PC spec-wise, but there is no comparing M$ Windows to OS X, and there is no comparing the amount of garbage and bullsh*t you'll deal with on a PC. There's also the fact that PCs are updated pointlessly on a more frequent basis so your Mac would remain up to date / functional for longer.

Powerbook. No question about it. 15" version by personal preference. I have owned or regularly used Vaios, Tecras, Thinkpads, eMachines and Dells with everything from PII through to Athlon 64 chips, running OSs from Windows 95 through XP, SuSe Linux and FreeBSD. The 1ghz Titanium Powerbook I got three years ago has outlasted and outperformed everything else.

as a self-described mac-ophile, I'll admit some bias. But after being forced to use a Dell, IBM, and Toshiba at the office, I can't tell you how much I appreciate my Mac at home. Starts up fast, runs smooth and stable, and most importantly acts just the way you think it should. Rarely do you have to figure out a workaround to get it to do what you want. Unless you're trying to do something pretty obscure. And definitely get the Apple Care plan - over three years time with a laptop, it'll pay for itself. And you'll be blown away by the customer support from Apple.

people goin on about apples... just cause of the MAC OS. fuck MAC OS is shit!!! windows XP is far superior.... and your pc only gets fucked if you dont know how to use antivirus software.. my pc is like back in the day 99' shit ... runnin a 1ghz AMD windows XP runs perfect. no adware no spyware . jus smooth windows sailing...

i bought a HP laptop it broke within a week... hard disk failure so i wouldnt recommend one of those, my dads got a new IBM seems quick ... id recommend a sony though

^^^totally agree with witts

apple icare is shit too, overpriced stuff appealing to hipsters for the look alone

got my pc in 2000, never had a problem

my gf got a power book in 2003k already had it swiped and reformatted twice, and changed the hardrive altogther once.

unless you're doing heavy graphics and animation (which i concede apple is better for) then there is no reason to get a powerbook save for vanity
