Chrome is obviously going to catch on as it will be the web browser for google's operating system 'Android' .

android is googles mobile os which afaik runs a simple ui on top of webkit, it isn't a desktop os

dont get me wrong, i love google and most of their services. i just don't see this browser being popular...

I was reading the comic strip posted along with Chrome's release yeseterday. Pretty informative and sounds good in theory...got up to page 25 or something and gave up though. For now FF does just fine.

-cant delete most visited on startup which sucks specially after porn

Apparently they have something called an Incognito tab which is supposed to address this.

I use Opera for OSX, it loads up sites faster than Firefox. But my main issue is that it has a problem with some Flash websites, which is really annoying.

I've been lazy about moving all my bookmarked sites from Opera to Firefox so I can use the latter as my default browser again.

how dare you, you used opera and want to go back to ff?!

seriously though, i'd stick with opera, im using the 9.6 beta and it's the best thing - ever. Most of Chrome's best features are opera influenced imo anyways..

still waiting for a good, FULL answer.

Firefox makes its money via a royalty agreement with Google. Every time you use the Google search bar in Firefox, Google kicks back some money to them. Last I heard, they had revenues in the neighborhood of $70 million a year from that alone. I think that's probably motivation enough for most companies to try to dominate the browser game.

For a company like Microsoft, though, $70 million is barely a drop in the bucket, so it's probably just to protect their dominant position. Plus if they keep people using IE and tailor the experience of the browser to drive people toward using Silverlight and Live Mesh, that'll create the opportunity for a new revenue stream if/when Windows/Office starts to dry up.

it fails because it doesn't do firefox plugins like adblock as someone already said. I would go to any website on it and I saw ads, I haven't seen any ads since I properly set up adblock and noscript in firefox. The skin is also ugly.

I did like the address bar showing the google search results as well, but that will probably get made into a firefox plugin anyways

I've just scanned through the thread quickly. I'm a very happy FF user, is Chrome worth downloading? What are the benefits over FF?

Chrome set-up file downloads in 1 sec.

if u're heavily reliant on plug-ins, u should just wait it out. Some minor bugs and it makes you wonder how secure a beta version can be....Otherwise, chrome gathers everything great from other browsers into itself. It's made for minimalist too.

chrome seems pretty stable and very quick, but lacks a lot of features.. no decent bookmark management or rss! plugins would be nice..

chrome isn't much of a memory hog on my computer.. i do like that you can see which site is taking up the most memory, so you can close the right tab.. the resizable text area is kind of an interesting feature.. more of a gimmick, though.

  • 1 month later...

am i the only one who's extremely annoyed that when i put the chrome to full screen mode, my taskbar doesnt want to pop up even when i scroll to the bottom of the screen.

aside from that bug, the other thing i dont like about chrome is that the bookmark and history dont appear on the sidebar.
