JDelage 2,369 Posted May 9 What's with the belt buckle being offset from the front of the pants? It's funny how most of the images I associate with vintage are from movies and they typically show pretty glamorous people. Those pictures just show everyday, normal people.
Broark 8,474 Posted May 9 I think it has to do with the width between the two front belt loops. A lot of vintage pairs had them very close, making it difficult to unbuckle your belt. I’ve also read that it’s more comfortable when bending down a lot (ie working on a farm and constantly having to lean down).

I meant to ask that very question myself as I've seen it on loads of photo's in this thread, it looks uncomfortable right?, the buckle kinda sitting on your hip??? Unless they're afraid of scratching something???

You got there ahead of me, of course now I remember this from my '44 501's. I might have to give it a go now.

Here are various explanations for the origins of the belt buckle to the side: -Kept mechanics from accidentally scratching the paint job on cars with their belt -Keeps from scratching the back of a guitar while playing -Easier to whip off and hit someone with it -To show off the metal studs they added to belts -Looked cool Some modern recreational examples:

The above is by far my favourite, although I can think of a much better reason to whip off a belt in a hurry. And no, not because I sharted my jeans - to which the answer is always never wash Edited May 10 by unders

Iron Horse 4,044 Posted May 14 I remember when some brands like Jelado IIRC we’re trying to bring back those vertical-ribbed shirts about 4-5 years back. Always felt too greezy for me!
