colette meets Comme des garcons

Recommended Posts

Beautiful opening a few days ago and a beauty of a shop!

The black 20G ipods were really nice, but for almost 1600 bucks U$, a bit steep.

the limited edition kaws, esm and space-invaders stuff was cool. tracy emin even has some collabs in there.

let me drop the links.

I can't believe that iPod scam. Factor out the cost of a $300 iPod with a $65 customization (most likely from Colorware <http://www.colorwarepc.com/products/accessories.aspx>) and they were basically charging $1,000 for an iPod case. The black customization didn't even look that good on those 3rd gen iPods.

you have just shown with the above post that you have no knowledge of cdg or collete as stores/brands.

There is no way such high profile brand(s) would have use a case from a rather cheap third party.

Im sure it is much better made.

Also, it comes with a customized leather carrying case with aluminum backing.

I agree its very expensive, but its cdg, and you see this type of thing ALL the time in the clothing business.

I wasn't referring to the case being from a 3rd party. If you'd bothered to click on the link I provided or even read the post properly, perhaps you'd have picked up on that. The 'limited edition' black iPod is a regular Apple iPod that has been painted black by a company called Colorware. For the store to imply that there is anything exclusive about the iPod itself is a cheap scam. The only limited edition item in the bundle is the (frankly ugly) CdG case. They didn't even bother to have the iPod dock colorized.

That sort of laziness is much more damaging to the Collette or CdG brands than overcharging for a 3rd party case would have been.

  • 3 weeks later...

how do you know that 'colorware" painted it?

How do I know? I looked at the picture using my eyes.

Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe Rei Kawakubo herself painted it using ink she secreted from her own arse. But I'm willing to bet you a one of a kind iPod case I made myself out of an old tshirt and some string (suggested retail price: $1,000.01) that it was Colorware.

Anyone else/any other company/cdg themselves could have painted the ipod is what hes trying to say.

it didn't neccesarily have to be colorware even if it wasn't cdg.

Fair enough...but it looks just like the Colorware paint jobs, and I know for a fact that Apple does not produce customized iPods for any company. The point I was making is that there is nothing exclusive about the device itself that would warrant a $1,000+ price tag. Unless you really, really like the CdG iPod covers.

Still, it's amusing to see the extent to which people will attempt to defend a shitty, lazy, half-assed promotion by a favored label, just because they like the other products it puts out.

looks pretty nice to me.

the ipods that mac did with jaguar may have been done by colorware, but i don't know if these were. nevertheless, you're also paying for a custom case made by rei kawakubo, so that in itself is pretty handsome.

yakboy must have the eyes of superman if he can tell they were done by colorware just by looking at it.

can you tell what songs are in it?

i'm not feeling the cover, too 80's punk. and what's the big deal with the covers and colors anyway? seems to me that it was more of a statement when everyone had to rock the super white and silver. which was instanly reconized as a pod. now it can be anything, the doors are open for posers and tourist alike!
