Anyone know what causes that flaring at the bottom of the pockets?

Mine did that at first, but I'm super happy with them now, nearly two years later (and have been for most of their life).

Type: S710BKH

Worn for: Since October 2013, probably 3 months of effective wear so far

Washes: 1 hot soak and 1 wash to get rid of the shrinkage. None since.

Speaking of Black denim, before Max kills it with awesome 710BK fades, here's a snapshot of the current evo on a pair of Black Hawk.

Not sure if it's the first intense washes but they don't fade very quickly compared to what can read here about other indigo dyed sammies. In fact I just started noticing whiskers fading a few weeks ago. Black fades may be more subtle at first than indigo ones.

All taken with natural light. The two first shot are quite close to actual colors.

I received these a week ago. Absolutely love them so far. I went size 34. I sized up one as I've been gaining a lot of weight in the gym and I was getting tired of the tighter fit in the upper block. Hemmed to 34. I did two hot soaks before wearing. They were unwearable before soaking. Afterwards they are perfectly loose in my opinion. Hats off to BiG's service and shipping speed as well.

Also thanks for all the help on sizing throughout this thread.

S710XX 15th Anniv. 2 Hot soak, 1 Hand wash using Samurai Detergent.

A little over 1 year now, for me this pair is a little slow to fade. I wore them almost everyday for 8 months, but not as frequent lately as i felt that the waist was becoming a bit tighter.. i guess i have gained weight recently.. :(

I picked up some 710s recently and now I understand why it's such a popular cut. I think they're the best fitting samurai's I've owned. My second pair of raw denim that I ever owned was a pair of the S0505s and they were great but I sized down a little too much and the zip fly just wasn't my thing. Tried both the 500 and 110XJ as well at different points and loved the denim on both but they didn't work out for me either. But this time I'm positive I'm be sticking with my 710s. However, out of all the pairs I've had I still think the 110xj's denim was my favorite. I really wish Samurai would use the left hand twill denim on more cuts. I'd buy a 710 cut with that denim in a heartbeat.

Yeah those pictures are pretty spot on for colour. They were a fair bit darker pre wash, but my most recent wash seem to take the most indigo out, which I am quite happy with.

They're fading quite similarly to my x's-33
