Samurai Jeans

Hello,

how did you size on this?

Thanks.

I went TTS - size 34. B_F's sizing guide was a huge help, as was a brief email convo with Gordon from BiG. I am super happy with the fit- they have settled a bit since the pics and are really great.

First of all they're very slubby. The yarns have a waxy texture to it from the paper fibres which I find contributes to the crocking effect. There's tremendous vertical fading that is quite stunning to look at under decent lighting with reasonable wear, if I had to describe it its quite like different shades of indigo streaking down the length of your jeans, almost like an indigo rain. I'm expecting this pair to be slightly less contrasty than the usual Samurai fare.

From what I heard the typical denim lover (like us) is 30-50 years old in Japan and I can see why those wear more classical cuts. But maybe they want to open new (domestic) markets and the trend for younger people is: slimmer = better.

Overall, if you look at the last 14 released jeans, 2 of them were the S003-cut. So it's not that dramatic.

If you compare with other brands, the trend for those Japanese brands is also going to slimmer cuts. Take IH (Beatle Buster, 666 and the upcoming 555), Fullcount recently made a slim/skinny cut 1109 (if I remember the numbers correctly), Denime brings out some slim cuts too, recently.

There's also PBJ's 11s, which are very popular, plus the fairly slim 007 and 005 cuts, and BiG's 010. And Flat Head's put out a few more variations on the 3001 cut, like the 20 oz. version.

Most Japanese guys are skinny, I'm surprised that slim cuts aren't more popular here. Historical authenticity doesn't seem worth it if it won't fit well (and particularly when a lot of the Japanese repro brands probably far exceed original Levis, etc. in denim and construction quality.)

pic heavy post coming up.

here are some pics of my s5000vx sz 32 worn from beginning of Feb through mid april all day every day, and then nights and weekends since. Initially I did two 1 hour hot soaks before wearing along with two 30 minute tumble dries. I gave them their first cold machine wash about two weeks ago. I have big thighs so they fit pretty slim in the top, but if I bought these again I might try a 31 so I could avoid doing the machine dries

These pics were taken today, so two weeks since the first wash.

I love the rusted backs on the buttons. I have a samurai type III jacket as well and the buttons on the arm holes are rusted over as well.

This is probably my favorite piece of wear on these jeans.

i'm letting go of a pair of size 29 black knights, since i've moved onto my ironhearts for a while and don't feel the need to keep them in my dresser any longer. worn and soaked once with plenty of life left in them. letting you guys know before i put the pair up in the marketplace, so hopefully a real samurai-head can grab this one. looking to let the beauty go for $250 shipped

PM for pictures, if interested
