Well, the hurricane soak didn't do much except get dirt on my jeans, so I gave them a handwash anyways.

Prewash photos, a late update on 7 months.

^SGJ1: Nice fading on them. Now try to stand a s long as possible before second wash. They have a serious fading potential left in them!!

Im looking to get a new pair of jeans and was looking into Samurais. After perusing this thread a little I saw pair that caught my eye and it was the Black Knights, loved them. I went to BiGs website to see about them and the were sold out.

I'm curious, will these be produced again or was it a one an done kinda thing?

Has anybody experience with the w001 belt? I am particularly interested in fitpics / size comparisons of the buckle. Thanks in advance.

unfortunately i do not have any pics or size comparison. but i have handled this belt before while in japan. tried them on and they're a really heavyweight and thick belt. even the buckle is twice your size of a normal buckle.

Satya please join the element contest! It would be appreciated! Even though we already have 1 water model it doesn't mean we can't have 2!

really? count me in then, the jeans is just 5 days old since the first wear, just had it hot washed yesterday to get rid all the starch and get more shrinkage, fits much better now, I'll passing by the element contest thread, thanks laxlife :o

Im still trying to get hip into the Samurai lingo :)

Would the Black 710 in the VX denim by the same or similar to the Black Knights?

the Black Knight used 19oz denim that was deadstock

So you won't get the exact same model again.

Now you only can choose between the S5000BK or Black Shadow (same 17oz denim as the S5000BK, but slimmer cut and different details).

Decided to do a DIY hem on my S5000s.

To finish up the hem I think I will send them to DD to also give them a little taper cause they have major hip flare. I know you guys will hate me for doing that but no regrets for doing it.

I do have hip flare too with the element, common issue for slim guy wearing a full cut jeans, please post your s5000 after the alteration ;)

Hi guys,

I am wondering how big the market for $300+ artisanal denim is outside of Japan. In a big city like Vancouver I rarely see selvage denim, let alone any of the prized Japanese brands like Sams, PBJ, SdA, RMC or SG etc. I wonder if it is really just a bunch of denim geeks tuned into this forum and 2 others. I mean the entire US has one retailer for Sams and I am guessing it is the only retailer outside of Asia?

Cheers,

Yeah, I will! I am debating if I should get them altered like a looser pair of 710s..

Well.. what do you want to know? I mean I live in NY and for the first time today I saw a pair of lesser known brand jeans out of the year and almost a half I have been working there. It was a pair of PRE-washed nudies... not even raw. So I mean most people who know about denim are going to be on a forum like this one unless, they have a good friend.

Well, that is kind of what I was wondering. That is kind of surprising for NY since I run into Nudies, APC LVC here in Vancouver all the time. Perhaps, I should also have posted this thing in the small questions thread, but not exactly small and I was keen to get the perspective of people in the Sammie thread.

Anyways, I got into this when I was first introduced to selvage denim through an article in GQ (don't laugh!). Doing more research I discovering why my dads old jeans (he kept them) had these unusual white lines. Though he pointed them out, at the time it did not mean much to me. Somehow, now I can appreciate the denim fabric produced this way and easily convinced of the jeans worth. But, I was just wondering since I have not visited many places outside of Vancouver what the denim scene is like out there. Say, a shop like BiG in NY or SF. Do they have a set number of loyal clients who read forums/have friends and shop their repeatedly or would a person randomly browsing denim shops in NY or LA or even online be convinced to spend almost $300 on a pair of jeans and wear them religiously?

On the other hand, given the popularity of workwear/artisanal appreciation for garments in Japan, it would seem that high quality denim is the norm there or at least far more concentrated rather than here where it is the taste of a few connoisseurs who are speckled all over.

It is a bit of strange question, but just want to see what other people have noticed in their native areas. Selvage denim is a phenomenon now, widely available in low ends shops (GAP/Old Navy) to douche outfitters (AE, A&F) to higher end stores in brands like RB, Nudie, APC. So, of course a lot more of it is out there, but how much attention is being paid to jeans produced by artisan makers?
