Best Non-SLR digital camera

LX-3 is probably the best camera of 2008 for P&S by various accounts

LX3 if you can live without the zoom range and viewfinder.

I recently saw side-by-side prints of LX3 vs. G10, and the LX3 blew the G10 away by a mile.

I was leaning towards the G10 at the time as well.

i would pass on the panasonic g1 for now. there will be smaller micro 4/3 cameras and lenses coming out this year.

the lx3 gets my vote. zoom range is hugely overrated in the popular american press.

can someone help me pick out a slim, pocket sized cam in the $200 range. I'm traveling for the next month and need something rugged that I can just throw in my bad pocket and not worry about. thanks

rumor was it's discontinued, but now it's just on "deep-backorder".

a digicam with a superzoom...what are you taking pictures of? birds, lions, girls on the beach?

Panasonic Lumix FZ7, obviously. It's one of the few available, and it's actually got a decent lens. Silly to want, but if this is what you want, it's probably the best one to have.

And really none of these are prosumer. Prosumer would be like the DP1 or something, but basically: Pro=RAW.

Actually for $300, a simple digital compact cam from Nikon or Canon can be had at around $200 and do the job well. The IXUS line from canon isn't too shabby.

Loving my LX3 at moment. It's small, portable and useful for impromptu shots.

I only use my D50 when I need telefocus.

Exactly why I want one.

The backorder situation is supposed to be resolved soon! :D

only thing i would change about the lx3 if i could is make the screen smaller to add an analog viewfinder

i know viewfinders on compacts are never identical to the actual frame (especially if you can change aspect ratio) but in certain situations it just works so much better.

I wanna get back into film, but I don't have the money for an overly expensive PnS. Dino's got one that I like, apparently the same kinda Terry Richardson uses - any info?

it's that or a Yashica, I guess. Don't wanna break the bank here.

The Yashica T4?

Blue moon has one for ultra cheap:

either that or just grab a cheap one with a decent rangefinder on eBay. I'm pretty outta the loop on film. My dad has some old Minolta's and other cameras, so I may just play around with those for a while.
