Leathercrafting Creations: PYC

I've been sewing on some wallets and since I've started making my own wax and resin, I now feel like Chevy Chase from Xmas Vacation when he's in bed trying to read the magazine... Awesome stuff I made, but sticky as fly paper.

finally finished up designing my "simple/minimal bifold" that's been a gaping hole in my product lineup. Wanted to do something a bit unique, and didn't want to rush the design- this is a year or so in the making. It's one piece, with only one sewn joint in the middle. pretty proud of this one

Another iPhone case that I did - for myself. This one can be used for both the 3 and the 4.

Vegtable tanned leather and 5ply waxed linen thread. Please keep in mind, that it hasn't been oiled and edges haven't been burnished yet.

If you need more info, read here :)

Corter, we need more pics. Lots of pics!

It looks like a piece, you are going to need a die cut for...

yea, it'll be die cut in all probability. Here's the final design with everything tweaked and final- I used Edge Kote to show the lines, but please pardon my lack of experience with the stuff- don't really like it.

folded up, it's very slim (has a dozen cards and 5 bills in it)

The only stitching is an interior welt

detail shots. It's kind of round still, because it's just been made. However, the design is made to flatten as you use it and mold really well to your body quickly with the placement of the layers and folds.

Last, the pocket curve took me a while to get, but it's perfect now- the curve extends over the fold on top, and what that does is tuck the welt perfectly in the center fold when shut, almost feeling like the wallet is closing itself. The curve also adds strength & structure, on top of being protective and covering the whole card while still allowing easy access. The pockets are not tight at all- almost pouch like, where you could stuff the wallet with 30 cards if you want. However, if you only use a few cards, the wallet molds itself shut in a couple days use.

Sorry for blabbering, I feel like I've come out of hibernation with this one- really proud of it!

So what leather are you guys using at the moment?

Some time ago I received this batch of experimental Horween leathers. What do you guys think?

Lastly I have possibly found an European source for Chromexcel, which is not cheap, but I think it is a great pull-up.

Other than that I'm usually using Baker leather for belts, but my supply is running out. And different German and Italian hides for other stuff. I'm hoping that I'll be able to do a pilgrimage to Tärnsjö in Sweden, as I want to buy some of their bark tanned leather - also because I like the concept of a Scandinavian made product, but mostly because some of their leathers are superb.

It is a bovine leather. But if you don't know so, it could give you the impression of being from fish, bird or some exotic... Or alien, possibly?

If you want to know more about the story, here is a small write-up

Sorry for all the shameless plugs. This is basically the only place on the internet, where I blatantly advertise for my blog.

Made some more and a super dark Cordovan version too.

I think these will be the last ones for a while, as the design takes way too many hours to make one...

These are on ETR..

I've read your write up and I'm pretty sure this is an embossed cow's hide. I love the idea for those guys trying to integrate the technology behind a golf ball into an entirely different sport.

And i think that you should use these leather to give your tools a little TLC...!

The pockmarks will make a nice grip.!

Great idea, although I have made leather caps for all of my knives. Most of my other tools are basically just Tandy's cheapest and many of them need replacing, so I'm not going to be making anything for them right now.

- I appreciate the input however.

Regarding the embossing, I'm in doubt myself. The grain pattern is slightly uneven and irregular, so it doesn't look like the typical embossing. I'll take a scrap to an older man I know, that knows tons of stuff about leather. Maybe he can give me some insight, or just spark a conversation.
