I wish I would have known about that a bit sooner, its a good excuse to leave town.

Anyway I just picked up a six pack of Gubna and I'm scared to try it, what with everyone saying it taste like onions. I feel as though very suggestion placed into my mind will make it taste so.

*sigh*

If I recall correctly, the Missision Street Brown is brewed by Firestone Walker

I did see there was an ad for a beer pub at one of the casinos, but the tag line was "... a wide variety of beers, like moosehead... " really moosehead is a great craft beer?

Okay, enough about LV... Just found a cheap good beer.

you better sit down... Trader Joes.... Mission Street Brown Ale. Yup, TJ makes a Brown Ale now.

I've not bought the other MIssion Street's, well because they were Trader Joes... but when I saw a Brown Ale (my favorite by the way) I had to pick up a bottle.

The price $1.99. Damn right Two buck Chucks is Back and now with a Decent, 1 Pint 6 oz, 5.7% Brown Ale.

Smells like Guiness a bit, lightly carbonated, lot's of chocolate notes, but not heavy at all. Really easy drinking. Reminds me of a lighter Stones 12th Anniversary Ale.

But for 2 bucks, you can't beat it. I might have to pick up a case next time I'm in as they always discontinue the good stuff I pick up.

Nice saison from North Coast. Fruity and refreshing. Big, pillowy white head. Very pleasantly surprised, as it was a pretty good bargain. Give it a shot if you come across it.

Good recommendation, had a bottle of this last night and really loved it.

Picked up a bottle of the Dogfish Head/Stone/Victory Saison too, will give that a go tonight. 3.99 for a 12oz bottle is kind of egregious though.

*Saison du Buff kind of sucked :( Poured a nice golden with a pillowy head with a super strong rosemary/parsley scent. Taste was just overwhelming though, like an IPA that someone poured a handful of rosemary into. Way too hoppy and herbaceous for me. I'm sure people who love hops might appreciate it a bit more, but I could barely finish the bottle without feeling like I just ate a bowl of Italian seasoning.

  • 2 weeks later...

The stone rep for the store I work at told me they have two weeks to supply their accounts with their seasonal beers after the official release date stated on Stone's website. It's first available directly from Stone's brewery store and then at larger/ high-volume specialty retailers. All seasonal beers are allocated, where after a few weeks if there is left-over stock their accounts can re-order on a limited/ as-available basis.

Wow, this thread totally died. Well, I'm back in the US now, moved to upstate New York so this is what I bought in my last run and have been drinking lately:

Southern Tier Oak Aged Unearthly IPA

Southern Tier Mokah, Jahva, Oat, and Creme Brulee (some special series of imperial stouts)

Cape Ann Brewing - Fisherman's Pumpkin Stout

SlyFox 113 Imperial IPA

And last but not least, I loaded up on a ton of Ithaca Brewing Co's beers. I got a growler of the Super Friends IPA collaboration with Ommegang, Captain Lawrence, Flying Fish, and Southampton. It's possibly the best beer I've ever had.. wish there was more of it but apparently it's gone in most places.

Anyway, let's get more beer talk going! What the hell happened to everybody?

Just made another beer run tonight, store here has 900+ beers. PIcked up 2 growlers -- Great Lakes Lake Erie Monster DIPA and Long Trail Double IPA. Also got some bottles of Southern Tier Pumpking, Southern Tier 2XIPA, Ommegang Zuur, SlyFox Saison VOS, Troegs Java Head Stout, Mad River Jamaican Sunset IPA, and Goose Island Sofie.

Last but not least, I still have a few bottles of 2007 Cantillon Rose de Gambrinus, left them in the US while I lived in China. Cracked this one open tonight to see how much it has changed.. ridiculously more sour (or possibly my palette needs to adjust to it again).. anyway, slightly too acidic but very smooth and drinkable.

^I'm located in Chicago so Goose Island is of no shortage here! I read of beer swaps all the time on other forums but never really thought out the logistics of it...If anyone has any specific requests let me know and I'll see what I can do! Sure wish I had access to Pliny's or Abyss....;);)

trading shouldn't be an issue. I can get access to the san diego stuff: stone, alesmith, alpine (personal favorite), ballast point, port, lost abbey, green flash, and have some other cellered beers as well. Pliny is easy to get through out Cali. lets see who else is interested as I wouldn't mind trading anything as long as I get some good American strong ales =)

Wow, being back in the US is awesome.. so many good beers everywhere I go.. Ithaca is pretty top notch for beer bars as far as a small town goes.. has a better selection than Nashville nonetheless =D

Anyway.. let's get BDawg, twistedtrees, and youkinorn out of the woodworks.. I'm sure they'd be down for a beer swap.. that would put us at 7. Who's organizing this thing?? =)

regarding pliny,

i had pliny the younger up in berkeley a few months ago. strong, ridiculous stuff, no wonder it's brewed like 1x a year.

Just had a pint of Delirium Tremens last night, I love that beer so much. Also, who's a beeradvocate member?

I'm on BA but I don't post too much, mostly just use it for BeerFly or researching beers. I'll probably trade on there a lot more now that I'm in a state where shipping beer isn't a felony. Anyway, just poured this:

Nice fruity DIPA, but really creamy at the same time. Alcohol presence is almost nonexistent, especially with this being 8.2%. Will definitely buy more of this.

sufu = too slow to read entire thread, so...

have you guys tried any of Avery Brewing Co's wares? They're based in Colorado and ridiculously good, from the excellent wheat White Rascal ( i don't even like wheat beers usually), to their demon brews like Mephistophele's Stout and Samael's Ale.

anyway, def. worth checking out if you haven't already, Colorado has the best breweries in the nation, dog

let's watch the "who has the best breweries" there a lot of city's with wonderful breweries.

I'd say Colorado has many, but so does San Diego, The entire state of Oregon, Chicago and San Fran.

Plus, smaller breweries all over the US.

And yes, I've had some Avery. They make an excellent product. Their Ellie Brown is my favorite Brown Ale that I can find in California, since I can't get Goose Island Hex Nut Brown here.

I even did a write up on Avery on my Drinking Forum...
