This one is a nice, mellow sour from Goose Island. Good, but even in my limited tastings of sours, I've had better considering the $16/bottle tag. But I did get a 2nd one for the basement, I mean, cellar

one more, just the other night. I didn't really like this one too much, the flavor was just too heavy. It was like drinking thick mohagany

I got sucked into buying some Harpoon Cider the other day, and surprisingly, I really enjoyed it. I remember drinking Woodchuck circa 10th grade, and it being really sweet. Are there any others worth picking?

no specific recommendations but seems like ciders in general are starting to become a bit more popular

I'm pretty spoiled when it comes to Bell's, coming from Michigan, and I have a tendency to stick with things I like. There isn't much to like in the state of Michigan, but Bell's does rank pretty high up there...

Tonight was nothing special...pretty standard Wheat Ale fare, but continuing my Bell's run...

Freshly roasted pecans and peanuts to back me up, watching a few fight recaps on tv...a nice Friday night, home alone...

EDIT: I just saw bdawg's abyss post....so jealous ughhhhhhhhh

i was randomly at belgium2brooklyn @ mug's earlier this month and happened on the tripel from la rulles. anyone know much about this brewery? it more than made up for meeting a french arsenal supporter who wanted florida to win the sec championship

other beers i sampled were regenboog wostyntje mustard (ok, kind of was hoping for something more astringent) and kelso newtown kriek (decent enough, probably slots in with garden variety belgian lambics but still miles better than exported lindeman's)

Enjoyed this with a friend who flew in yesterday (thanks to B-Dawg).

It was absolutely delicious. Kind of just makes me sad I don't have more ready access to their beers.

At my parents house for the holidays, so pardon the hokey christmas paraphernalia. This also means I had to settle for a wine glass. Held the aroma and carbonation just fine, though, actually.

Glad to help out, younikorn, and glad to successfully ship beer!

Obviously not my picture, but this is what I drank to kick off the festivities last night

I'm admittedly not the biggest stout drinker in the world (not that I don't like them, just gravitate to other styles), but I love this beer. Pours completely black and opaque, and is quite thick...as most RIS seem to be. Incredibly smooth and a little sweet, with lots of roasty flavors. Lots of hoppiness, too, which I enjoyed.

Good.

Went to The Bay again this weekend.

Bottles purchased:

Panil Barrique- My first Italian beer, a Flemish Red style beer aged in brandy barrels

Jolly Pumpkin Weizen Bam and Oro de Calabaza, barrel aged inficted hefeweizen and biere de garde, respectively

JW Lees harvest ale, 2005 vintage matured in sherry casks

Cantillon Brouscella Grand Cru, 3 year barrel aged unblended lambic, to be sent to the cellar for many years

Samichlaus Helles

This weekend I had the 2008 bourbon barrel Old Rasputin XI on tap

Also at Toronado had Life and Limb and Golden Ticket, a Baltic Porter from Sierra Nevada, Howling Wolf Weizenbock from Grand Teton, who has consistently impressed me, and Port's delicious Panzer imperial Pils.

At La Trappe we balled out of control with 2006 bottles of Cantillon's perfect Lou Pepe Framboise and Gueuze.

My favorite beers are easily the Unibroue brews. Most particularly, Maudite and La Fin Du Monde. If you are Canadian (I'm not) and you aren't up on these beers yet, I highly suggest checking them out. For the refined palate to be sure.

http://www.unibroue.com/our_beers_eng.html

But when there are no Unibroue beers to be had, Blue Moon, Arrogant Bastard, Newcastle and Stella Artois do the trick.

Don de Dieu is certainly my favorite Unibroue. They are all a great deal, and easily beat out Ommegang and Allagash in the budget bracket, and are on par with Affligem (though with a wider range).

I find them lacking, however, when stood up against anything outside of their price range; they all seem to have a single dominant, overpowering taste and weak finishes. That being said, I probably drink more Unibroue than anything else.

unibroue is ok, but for only a little more there are plenty of true belgian beers to be had. id rather pay $7 for a 750ml bottle of something i'll really enjoy as opposed to $6 for something that is only ok. for less expensive good beers i look to the germans or english.
