my girlfriend just got me a panasonic lumix camera for an early xmas gift. it's a great camera, and i'd like to keep in something other than my sock. does anyone have any camera case recommendations? i saw some cool stuff from head porter, but they're too small for my camera. thanks!

Camera casesand bags are a big subject.

It depends on what kind of scenario you envision yourself using the camera in.

I have a pelican waterproof case for travel, an over-the-shoulder bag with a flap for easy access for events/photojournalism or just walking around town, a back-pack with a rigid back and padding for bigger shoots...

It's all convenience versus protection. My daily carry is a small point-and-shoot in a pouch in my over-the-shoulder-bag.

If you think you will mostly carry your camera around on its own, there are literally dozens of different options.

From classic like Billingham or National Geographic

To something more sporty

If you will put your camera in your bag, a smaller protective case that fits the camera snuggly might be a good idea.

Neoprene sleeves are one of the many options.

I often go to the bigger websites like adorama.com or b and h, shop around for the search "camera bag", then find a style/manufacturer I like.

What model is it? We make a couple hand-stitched leather pouches and cases that may work. I use one of our belt pouch styels for my digital camera. I can e-mail you some photos if you would like.

most small cameras (non SLRs) fit perfectly in an Altoids metal box. clean it out and drop a layer of padding and you have a hardshell case that looks good and wont get jacked.

the panasonic tz3 is pretty bulky. it's not your regular pocket sized point & shoot, in respect to size. i can't decide if i'm happy or unhappy about that.

and I'm sure there's an E-cat bag here on sale by chim somewhere (is that sold yet?) anyways it would make for a great giant bag for all your cam equipment.
