what about Japan-only brands? there's an infinity of them, all regular fitting and higher quality than evisu *(at least evisu EU ED). Samurai (there's a guy selling them in size 36 here). Denime, Warehouse, FOB, Eternal, Full Count, Dope + Drakkar, Sugar Cane, Studio Dartisan.

For more accessible brands there's nudie RR Veggie or DS, Pace-wear, Julian Red, PRPS dry, 5EP.

Only problem with those Japanese brands are they are so difficult to get in the USA. Well, for that matter, so difficult to get anywhere outside of Japan, really.

if distribution was world wide and massive, heads wouldn't be all over their nutsack. shit, it's one of the first rules of new consumerism. keep that shit exclusive and expensive, each justifies the other and drives us, the consumer, crazy.

mouth frothing. word.

I agree. ( although you should be able to get Sugarcane's in the USA.)

However, there's still a fine selection available in the USA. If you're looking for Japanese style repros then try:

5EP

DDC Lab

PRPS

Jean Shop

Not sure about Jean Shop, but the others are made in Japan from Japanese denim. All make some extremely good jeans.

Other good homegrown brands,

Rag n Bone - Japanese denim, made in Kentucky.

Rogan - also use some Japanese denim

WHY DOES EVERY ONE THINK JEANS FROM JAPAN IS GOOD? I THINK THEY ARE REALLY JUST WHAT EVER, ALL JAPANESE DENIM LOOK LIKE LEVI'S FOR SOME REASON, ITS IF THEY ARE CREATING THEIR OWN LEVI'S...SINCE THEY COULDN'T GET ENOUGH LEVI'S....AND THEY ARE SIMPLY OVER PRICED...

nice question.

first, why jeans from japan are good: because their craftsmanship and attention to detail is the best, they use only high-quality methods of production, the raw materials they use for their jeans are better than others by far, they don't cut expenses and produce the best jeans (all this generally speaking), plus they are big producers of traditional denim (pre mass-production).

second, they all look like levi's. I think this is part of their idea to reproduce the original, or authentic workwear garnments, and I suspect the japanese tend to prefer that kind of fit/look. not all of them fit or look like levis, though.

the price thing: their market is mainly for their own, and japanese spend huge amounts of cash on clothes, and they are rich.

Second the Rag & Bone recommendation. Their jeans are phenomenal. Superb quality and a flattering fit.

Are you saying that Americans don't have just as good craftmanship and attention to detail?

HOW COULD YOU ACTUALY BELIEVE THAT THE JAPANESE DENIM FACILITIES ARE PRODUCING THERE JEANS BETTER THAN INDEPENDENT COMPANIES LIKE ZACE DENIM AND THE VERY FEW OTHER AMERICAN BRANDS WHO ACTUALLY MANUFACTURE THERE OWN PRODUCTS....LEVI STRAUSS IS ROLLING OVER IN HIS GRAVE!!!!

DO YOUR HOMEWORK BEFORE MAKING SUCH STATEMENTS. WWW.ZACEDENIM.COM

I don't believe any one country has a better eye for detail than the other. It just so happens that many Japanese companies are going full-blown 200% on creating the best quality jeans that they can - it's not a natural talent that comes only to Japanese people, it's a matter of work ethic and production costs. Many American companies choose to go the cheap route - sweatshop labor, cheaper materials and hardware, and of course a cheaper tag. It's more business oriented. I'm sure there are tons of designers over at Levi's that are perfectly capable of producing jeans every bit as amazing as Sugarcanes or Samurais, but their business model doesn't allow them to use the same (more expensive) resources that many Japanese companies use. Blanket statements (such as Japanese denim/jeans being better) are bad (irony?).

I would have to say that the only thing Japan has on us is there willingnes to produce high quality denim. I know for certain that american denim could be just as good if the mills wanted to take the time to make it. The problem is you have corporate giants like Ralph Lauren, Wrangler and various other American mega brands who fuel the domestic denim manufacturing mills. In America the majority of people could care less about denim. I think we both agree there's definantly differences among the ranks of denim choices.

americanjeanfiend, homegrown means American designed. A lot of American designers still use denim from Japan because of its quality and reputation. I think Levi Strauss would be much more proud of the work that companies like Sugarcane have done in creating amazing jeans without cutting any corners, than he would of an annoying, bigoted guy who talks in all caps and speaks on behalf of him, decades after his death.

By the way, are you sure Zacedenim.com wants you as their spokesperson? If so, you came to the wrong site to publicize.

The jeans on the site look horrible. If you've ever even read this site you'd know that coming right in and pimping your brand out right off the bat is the wrong way to go.

Is this you????
