The Strike Gold

My 5109's have arrived. I've washed them and worn them for almost a full day, here are my thoughts thus far:

-This denim is truly incredible. The character it has is unlike anything else I own (IH 21 and 23 oz, Samurai 17 and 19 oz, and PBJ 14.5 oz). It stretches easily, and breathes very well. I can tell this will be a great warm weather denim. I'm guessing it will fade fairly quickly as well. Strike Gold would have to be crazy to stop making this denim.

-The 5109 is a great fit, but it's a bit slim for my liking. I can live with it for sure, but I probably should have went with the 5105 and dealt with a bigger leg opening than I really wanted, since all the other measurements were pretty close. The 5109 is just a bit on the slim side for my tastes, especially from the knee down, but I can live with it, unless someone is looking to trade for a pair of 5105's in size 33. I won't be wearing these much until the HWDC2 is over.

Here's the fit after a wash and a day's wear:

Special thanks to Brennan (BAerts) at SELA for being so patient and awesome with my cross-country denim shopping.

Looking awesome lax!

Funny the stages of denim, I find the first 3 months a joy as they stay relatively dark.  3-6 months the "questioning stage" where they kinda look weird, due to not looking new but not faded enough to look rad. I get excited from 6-9 months in anticipation of what they look like from 9-12+! Haha

On that note, I have noticed that most people who sell their second hand denim usually do around the 4 month mark?!

Those looks great.

I'm surprised at how much different the fabrics end up fitting even among the same cut.

the 5105's I have are quite a bit slimmer than the 2105's I have.

Yeah, I tried on the 5109 in the same size as my 2109 and they fit way tighter, which for me is a good thing being skinny and all. Didn't cop them though, basically the same as my SExI14, got the 301S instead. Love SG, probably my favorite Japanese brand.

The main difference I noticed is in the leg opening.

Which is nice, because the leg opening on my 2105's was a big big.

I really like SG too, I just ordered another hoodie.

I just wish they made bigger tees!

Thanks everyone!

Gotta keep in mind that all Strike Gold fabrics are different! Although I love them all, I would love to own one of the 5xxx's, but my next pair on my list is a pair of IH's. Then one of the type III SExIH jackets if I can get my hands on a decently priced one...

Thanks my friend. Heh you're right on that, at least I've noticed with Strike golds that's the case... Weird though because for the first 6-7 months the fading is so slow and then its like they become sandpapered they become so faded lol.

The pic of the hole in the knee with the muddy weft threads poking through kinda makes me horny for another pair of SG's already. But I MUST get a pair of 666-XHS first.

HAHAHAHA denim porn at its finest... they actually saved me from a long boarding accident my first week of longboarding...

Laxlife, those look awesome! How'd you size and got any fit pics? Thinking about picking up a pair myself.

I went with a 29 in these which is my regular size for denim that isn't overdyed. Right now I'm back to being incredibly skinny again and they are big on me at a size 29. I could have actually sized down one for a slimmer fit. I say go for it dude! I hope my pair inspires you to get a pair. No recent fit pics due to no tripod but here's an oldie.

Thanks for the fit pics man! I'm torn between a 28 and a 29... I'll have to do some more measuring before I pull the trigger.

Edit:

Okay so I just remeasured my 105BSPs (straight leg) which fit pretty spot on.

Waist: 14.5"

Thigh: 10.5"

Knee: 8"

Leg Opening: 8"

Rise: 9.5"

The waist fits well, the thighs have about 0.5" of room to them and the rise is manageable (some times have to pull the jeans down when I sit). I'm leaning more towards the 28's... how much do they shrink under a hot hot soak? I'm concerned the 29's thigh measurement will be too big if they stretch any.

Get the 28 hands down. They may be a bit tight at first but I promise they'll stretch a bit. My measurements for my 2105s are:

Waist: 16.2" (aligned)

Knee: 8.2"

Hem: 7.9"

Thigh: 10.7"

The waist sits on my hips vs. my actual waist, so that's more so the reason the waist is bigger. Although I would highly recommend getting the 28. They ain't skinny jeans, so you shouldn't expect the thighs to stretch out all that much.
