Denim for the Office

Guys/Gals,

I'm looking for a pair of jeans to wear to the office. My Rescues are great, but they're not as "office appropriate" anymore, after 6 months with no wash.

Really, I'm looking for something with a similar look and cut to the rescues--dark denim, small pockets, etc...but in this case I'm not concerned with selvage, fade possibilities, and the like.

I've seen some R & B and Acne jeans that look nice, but thought I'd throw this one out there.

Thanks,

Chad

If you have a pair of dedicated "office jeans" you won't really need to worry about fading or indigo loss or that kind of thing... so just get a cut you like, and they'll stay dark (and more professional-looking, somewhat) if you just wear them to work.

Not like APC's in cut (but probably more office-like) or price, but have a look at the dry Stitchless Bow jeans by Rogan. They are available in at least 2 selvedge denims, with slight variation in weight and weft colour.

They are constructed with, as the name suggests, minimal topstitching. So the effect is more elegant, less workwear. Think of them like jeans made by a classic trouser maker like Incotex.

Stealth jeans.

Come to think of it, Incotex also make jeans. Similar in concept to the Rogans, with minimal topstitching, but a completely different cut.

There was some talk about them previously here:

by 6-months do you mean... they're faded so they look rather casual or they smell like crap because of the no wash?

if it's the latter, then let it air out in the sun/febreeze.

if it's fading, i suggest you buy a pair of overdyed jeans so you can consistantly use them without having to buy new pairs because they've faded too much to appear as office denim.

I luckily get away with wearing jeans at the office too. I think if you wanted something subtle, I would go for something without backpocket stitching, and if possible, low contrast stitching elsewhere. Black jeans are also good for the office, because they don't look like jeans from afar. Sammy 5000bk's are a good choice...not too skinny, black denim, black/grey stitching, black arc's (or no arc's).

No back pocket stitching has got to be a must, it flies under the radar a little longer than bright stitching. Everyone looks at each other at work and then people begin to pretend they don't notice but they definatly do.

I have an old pair of Helmut Lang's that are really the only pair of jeans I would consider wearing to the office. Not sure about the new ones, but if they are anything like the old ones, they might do.

Otherwise, you might just want to dumb it down a bit, I see a lot of guys in my office in JCrew jeans...

Awesome,

Thanks for all the opinons, and keep them coming!

The rogans look nice, but the pockets are f'ing huge.

Chad

Yes, the pockets are rather large :)

Then, I'd go with Roland's nomination of the 45rpm Nandos. They look almost nondescript to the point of boring until they get a good year of wear and several washes. Then they are rather wonderful ;)

While Portland is admittedly pretty relaxed about everything, office dress included, I have seen a lot of office folks in j. lindeberg, which looks decent unfaded. I've never seen a nicely faded pair, but since you seem more interested in holding on to indigo rather than losing it, maybe check them out:

(you may want to size up one or two or three from this models ball sculpting size)
