what's japan's equvalent of sufu? do they have any popular fashion forums? always wonder what's really going on at street level over there, what the consumers there are into, what they're thinking, etc. like i want to see actual discussion, what do cool japanese dudes think is going to be big next? what do they think is super wack? any interesting scoop on their industry? etc

http://fashionpost.jp/

http://www.honeyee.com/

etc...

But to be honest shit is wack in Tokyo right now.

All derivative BS.

Nothing original.

I suppose TTT is getting some rep cuz he's cool w/ the Cannabis crew (showing exhibition for AW15 right now).

But its just a derivative of D.TT.K which is a derivative of 90s sportswear.

Maybe the following???

Son of the Cheese

Facetasm

Inari

Def Mickey crew.

TTT

Hyke (ex-Greeeen designer)

The Reracs

Banal Chic Bizarre

But what the fuck do I know...

Didn't know Hyke was by the Green crew.

I've only heard of SOTC, facets, hyke, and banal.

It's kind of weird but paper media are still going strong in Japan. Unlike in the US where magazines are just complete trash and have 0 value, Japanese people get information through mostly through traditioinal paper-based media. I think people stay up-to-date by checking the sites mentioned above e.g. fashionsnap.com, honeyee, GQ (Yes, you heard me right), eyescream, houynhm.  From what I understand, people in the industry like reading WWD and Sen-ken.

Interestingly, some web-based fashion magazines have gone from digital to analog. Houynhm just began releasing houynhm unplugged, which is a seasonal magazine.

Huge (RIP) used to be THE magazine when "modo" fashion was popular in the early 2000's. The whole normcore / cityboy culture was propelled by the "new" Popeye. Popeye used to be like men's nonno – just focusing on generic "in" fashion. In the late 90's, people learned about Shibukaji and Urahara mostly through Streetjack, Boon, and other street-oriented magazines. In the 80's, Hot Dog Press was considered the fashion bible among twenty-seomthing guys.

I don't really read much these days but people seem to enjoy Ginza, Soen, and etc.

There are quite a few interesting new magazines out there – forgot what it's called but there's that fashion running magazine, "I bought", and "the day" to name a few.

I regularly read Brutus and Pen. The amount of research that goes into the publication of these magazines is crazy. I learn so much from these two.

-edit-

Across 定点観測 is one of the oldest street snap media. I think the publisher's been doing a weekly streetsnap at the SAME three spots in Tokyo since the early 80s.

Seriously, I feel like after the death of Hedior / Goth Ninja fashion, everyone either went  street / high fashion mix,  urban paul bunyan, or just normcore. I feel like there hasn't been any IT fashion since the mid 2000's.

I just buy shit that's stood the test of time. I think my closet now has like five types of shit

1) Engineered Garments and heritage European/US brands

2) Scandinavian stuff that I've been wearing, like, since 2006. Wear and replace.

3) Beaters - Club monaco and j. crew for work

4) the "unknown" labels - European factory / OEM brands that make shit for the big maisons

5) REAAAAALLY expensive tech with fancy fabrics, snaps, and zips - veilance and SI

and Remnants of kimoi and assorted minimalist high fahsion e.g. Undercover, and Margiela

Houynhm's print magazine is pretty good.

Also what's the running magazine? It's not ãƒ©ãƒ³ãƒ‰ãƒ is it? I don't think it's very fashion focussed compared to Go Out or something comfy anyway.

it's not. i think it's by the same company that does shoe masters

Huge is done? I haven't read it in a LONG time but shiiiit. Brutus and Popeye both must have crazy research budgets -- it's always crazy to me the amount of shit they find in their travel coverage.

I'm pretty shocked that lumberjack cabin swag is still so popular in jp. I get how prep americana lasts for a decade+, but the flannel + native american accents thing has been going strong for sooooo long.

Americana alive  since the mid 90's. Huge got revamped for the worse – now it's done.

herpsky I don't know who you hang out with but none of my friends in the fashion industry give a fuck about most fashion magazines these days.

Instagram is killing the print-media business hard. Along w/ Fashionsnap.com, WWDJapan.com, etc., although the later is just marketing bullshit to get likes, tweets, etc that the value of the content has critically gone down.

It's no wonder that Startoday bought Aratana (which manages Honeyee.com and Fatale.com).

Young steezy kids aren't buying/reading magazines.

They are more engaged in what their steezy friends are coping/wearing on Instagram, Wear, smart-phone/online media, etc.

Is it any wonder the former CEO of LINE left to start C-Channel (http://www.cchan.tv/) in conjunction Asobi System?

They already have 5 million in funding and will be launching a store in Harajuku.

i don't really 'get' asobi system, i originally thought it was just a record label for kyary and co but it seems to be way more than that? i passed one of their offices last year and it seemed surprisingly bland inside.

Its basically a powerful entertainment agency now. Think of it like Avex Trax or a Japanese version of YG Entertainment, etc. with businesses in online media, music, fashion, modeling, etc.

Her dj shows on instagram seem alright but everything about their videos is corny. "lets smoke cigarettes but hold them like they are joints!"

yah but rappers also been renting bentleys for music vids since the 90s.

tbh i haven't read the dissertation on joint holding vs. cigarette holding either, though, so this didn't bother me.

it's definitely corny in a ton of ways, but i'd still be down with it.

I've never been to a taco bell in my life is Â¥320 for two tacos a lot.

yes just go buy gyoza instead

Also told you guys people would line up for this shit :(

Is that even facing dogenzaka? it looks like it's in one of those alleys in hyakkendana, next to all those fuzokus.
