Going to Philly...

I'm actually from south jersey near the Cherry Hill Mall area, but my girlfriend resides over in philly so we spend most of our time there. I'd like to formally challenge anyone to the perfect day of eating in Philly. It consists of:

-A cheesesteak from any of the four reputable locations (Geno's, Pat's, Jim's, or Tony Lukes. You can get vegetarian ones from Giana's but why bother.)

-A $2 slice of pizza from Lorenzo's

-Any mexican dish from La Lupe on 9th and Federal next to Geno's

-And bare minimum a full sized hoagie from Wawa, your choice.

-Either water ice from Rita's, or if John's on 3rd and Christian

It's by far the greatest eating experience ever. Ever.

I don't really know TOO much about them or exactly what you're looking for, but you could look into Sofitel or The Rittenhouse, or the Rittenhouse 1715 for something less commercial. They're all in the Center City area and you can take a look at all three here http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g60795-d226730-Reviews-Rittenhouse_1715_A_Boutique_Hotel-Philadelphia_Pennsylvania.html . Maybe that'll help a bit.

those hotels seem nice, but i was kind of thinking more of a modern interior. do such hotels exist in philly?

I kind of figured as much. Honestly, I can really say I DONT know of anything like that. Maybe somewhere down in the old city area, you could check with joey formal on that since he works down there? Or poly, he usually knows of some good stuff. But like I said to everyone else, just make sure you go to wawa.

i was about to input this thread, but i've never stayed in a hotel in philly or reco a place in philly for someone to stay as i'm local and never have that situation...but yeah, maybe camp out in front of a wawa?

ddml might be able to input, saucemaster over at stylefourm might be better informed as well.

really? not near me. i was having a discussion about sheetz vs. wawa the other day. wawa obviously won, a closer battle was turkey hill vs. wawa.

I actually saw a sign for it at the one on 2nd near south. It's the first time I've ever seen it, but what was weird was that it looked old and marked up. Sheetz is a blatant ripoff. If you need a pizza and fucking gelato, you don't need to be in a convenience store.Turkey Hill is pretty good, but I think they're stuff is twice the price of wawas.

Thought it would be good to kickstar this again (WaWa deserves its own thread, no doubt) but I'm sure I've missed some gems.

Go to Philly on a first friday. Before leaving your home, find out where the latest White Ts, White Belts party (http://www.myspace.com/whitetshirts) is taking place. That will cover your Friday night. For Saturday night, check around to see if PaperStreet (www.myspace.com/paperstreetevents) are hosting something you want to get into. Maybe TLA (http://www.livenation.com/venue/getVenue/venueId/1681) for a concert. Otherwise, keep your eyes out for flyers at the following spots below. 700 club and Silk City tend to be default spots when in doubt.

Take the day off, get into the city early and hit up any or all of the following during the day:

Ubiq (http://superfuture.com/city/reviews/review.cfm?id=4370〈=EN)

Made to Order (http://www.superfuture.com/city/reviews/review.cfm?id=4978)

Deep Sleep (http://www.myspace.com/deepxsleep)

WTHN (http://www.myspace.com/wthnphla)

Exit (http://www.myspace.com/exitskateshop)

When hungry, get over to Gino's or Pat's. I'm not here to sell you on either one, just try at least one of these spots...just because the world thinks you have to:

Ginos (http://www.genosteaks.com/)

Pats (http://www.patskingofsteaks.com/)

Doesn't matter what you put on your cheesesteak as long as you've got whiz :)

Gotta leave it at that for right now since work calls...

Damn, sleazie ninja definitely called me out properly. Ishkabibble's and Nick's are a must. I need me some cheese fries right now.

Speaking of Ishkabibble's, get yourself to South street (http://southstreet.com/) for more shopping and messing about with alcohol.

Hit up:

Pedestrian (http://www.pedestrian215.blogspot.com/)

Afficial (http://www.myspace.com/afficialhoodshop)

Nocturnal (http://www.myspace.com/nocturnalskateshop)

And just because everyone is gonna ask you if you went there, drop by Jim's (http://www.jimssteaks.com/) to say hi. You could grab a cheesesteak to get you thru the long night ahead of you and a nice cold Miller goes just fine with an order there...but we just said that Ishkabbible's is the place so what are you doing standing in that long ass Jim's line???

Once the alcohol flows, why not stop by Tatooed Moms (http://maps.google.com/maps?q=530+South+Street+Philadelphia+PA+19147) for beer and a game of pool. If you need more alcohol and a change of scenery, stop by Copabanana (http://www.copabanana.com/) or North Bar (http://www.myspace.com/northlounge) which might keep your interest, and at least they are also on South Street.

Assuming you've hit all those food spots, I guess you could always stop by Continental(http://www.continentalmartinibar.com/) just becase...
