Hey guys,

I'm flying out to Seoul either tomorrow or friday for business... and I need a nice hotel near our office in Kangnam.. next to the Samsung metro stop. Anyone from Seoul have any recommendations?

Sorry for short notice... they just told me today. FUN FUN.

You could stay at the Lotte World Hotel - which is a big, glitzy complex on top of a shopping centre and attached to Lotte World- a kitschy 1970s theme park with its own lake. Its a Seoul landmark , everyone knows it. And right on top of Jamsil station which is about a clear five minute train ride from Samsung, (or Samseong I think they are spelling it now.) Theres probably a hotel at COEX shopping mall too if you google (COEX is attached to Samseong)

For fun in Seoul though, go north of the river. Gangnam is a soulless (Hey, a pun!) business district of slick, boring clubs where they try and set you up with people . Hongdae and itaewon is where the fun is at.

You got lots of options here, starting with:

1. Intercontinental (connected to COEX and Hyundai Department Store)

2. Grand Intercontinental (one block over to Intercontinental)

3. Park Hyatt (balling status)

4. Oakwood

I usually hang out south of the river, especially towards the Apkujung/Chungdam/Kangnam area but will venture north of the river towards Itaewon and Hongdae for clubs.

In Kangnam -

Current club spots: Circle, Spot, NB, Harlem

Booking clubs: Club I, Juliana & Spot (weekdays)

In Kangbuk -

Clubs: M2, VIA, NB, Harlem, and tons of little places

Booking: BOBOS, Interface

The girls are much hotter down south. Werd.

Dizz thank you so much. That's a big help. I'll definitely tour around as much as possible. Hopefully I'll get some free time out of the office... eeek.

If you had one day to tour... what would you do?

Gyeongbokgung Palace? Seoul Tower? DMZ? etc.

If you really want to check it out the historic shit, you can always check out the palaces located in Kwanghwamun, then check out Insaedong for small shops and Korean souveniers.

DMZ can be done in a day but buses leave early so check your schedule. You might want to reserve two days for that shit.

If you really want some fun, PM me for some nasty shit. Its all about soju, miniskirts, business clubs and pink lights from this point on.

Have fun and drink as much soju as you can. You'll thank me in the morning when you wake up naked next to a hooker and have to order dried fish soup to cure your hangover.

Tailored Shirts can be made over at Itaewon along with MTM suits. I usually get my shit done over in Hong Kong but you can always try Hamilton Tailors located right off of Itaewon Station. Shirts will vary according to fabric (pure cotton, cotton-poly blend, etc.).

Othello is another option for suits, as they have a lot of stores throughout Seoul.

Korea has everything, in terms of designer goods, but with a heavier price tag. Your better off buying shit in America or the duty free stores.

Awesome thanks for the tips. The past few days have been pretty fast paced, so I haven't had much chance to explore the area. We're in Assem Tower, which is pretty centrally located it seems here in Gangnam...

Just noticed today that there is a UNIQLO in Coex :-P

Are there any specific nightlife spots that you think I should hit up? Either here in Gangnam, Apkujung, Hongdae, Itaewan...etc... And nothing that will get me in trouble with the law hahaha.

Samsung Dong is a bit more southeast. It's not technically central located but still everything is accessible by taxi, subway, bus, etc. There's nothing really interesting asides from the business district over there asides from that mega underground mall, Hyundai Deparment Store, 7-Luck (Casino) and mediocre restaurants.

As I mentioned before, decent nightlife spots can be found in the Apkujung/Chungdam Dong areas. Some high end bars would be S-Bar, 74, About, Tribeca and Circle. A recent dance club opened up across from the Prima Hotel called Veil, which features pole dancers but no nudity (wtf!).

If your Korean skills are up to par, you can always do the booking thing. Club I over at the Rivera Hotel, Spot at the Sunshine Hotel and Julianas at the Ellui Hotel are the best options.

Hongdae in itself is a great place to mix with a younger, more eclectic crowd with more focus on the music selection. You can find house, hip hop, rock, electronica clubs scattered throughout the area and perhaps Dismalfuture with his pants down to his crotch.

Itaewon is the foreign haven but as of recent, a lot of decent restaurants have popped up in the area as the locals here want more in their diet then fermented cabbage and rice. I'm honestly not a fan of Itaewon but they do have the best burgers at a place called Nashvilles. Fucking big and greasy - just like how I like them.

Anyways, you can't go wrong with these recommendations. Enjoy the nightlife here.

too late but yeah the Park Hyatt is nice. A bit weak for the price and it's not the Park Hyatt Tokyo by any stretch but eh. I've stayed in rooms in Tokyo for half the price and had nicer. The bar in the basement features weak $20 cocktails and $50 cigars (which aren't bad) and b-list celebs.

I probably need to go booking more often. One of the local pasttimes I don't partake in and miss out on. I went last Tuesday for the first time in years and forgot how fun it is. Imagine some waiter just literally throwing girls at you and telling them to sit down at the table with you. From there it's like shooting fish in a barrel. My Korean language skills are equivalent to a 4 year old's in their sleep, but apparently I know enough of the dirty language because I usually get my fingers in a girl at a booking club. Key is though, roll with as many (fun) people as possible, always makes booking better.

Today is uhhh Tuesday I think. Koreans don't go out on weekdays but you can most of the mega-clubs and they'll have some people inside. Kangnam NB, Harlem, Hongdae NB, Harlem. That's about it til the weekend. I drink at the pub til Fridays usually.

Itaewon starts ladies nights on Thursday; Loft and Helios.

Friday is when the fun begins.

haha, just busy working thirteen hour days... I finish that in a couple weeks though... meanwhile I'm just hot and sweaty and unhappy at the moment in this weather. I wear the same pair of New Standards everyday because I don't want to stink up the rest of my jeans. If you see a guy in a SuFu-style fit walking around Seoul, complete with Vans Eras and dry jeans with a Hap-style mini cuff, it's probably me.

azn8oi, how long are you stayin in Seoul? We could probably do a little Seoul mini-meet, but I don't ever get off work til real late everyday, about 11 before I'm out on the town.

dizz, is the new Juliana the old Club Nyla? Have fond memories of that place... them and their $800 rooms and 500mL bottles of XO... the water is good though...

Yes, the new Juliana was the old NYLA, but most of the good water can be found at Club I. Tons of good looking girls running around in their mini-skirts and what not but it is the top spot amongst the Kangnam clubs. My fondest memories were at Boss when I came here in 01, especially after 2 am when the drink prices are discounted and when the working girls come to party. Such good, dirty fun.

I've been going to Circle as of recent and despite the high drink prices, there are tons of girls there and the lines are quite long even at like 1 in the morning. Hip hop nights on Wednesday are also good fun.

I think I'll be heading out this Saturday as well. Should you venture out south of the river, hit me up. First round is on me.

interesting... liking what I hear. Actually haven't been to Circle yet because I've been moody and sitting around at the locals watching football for the past 3 months. Need to get out but I've got several plans of action for this weekend already. Next weekend might be good though, then I'm off to Japan for awhile! SuFu mini-meet on the 11th? We can do something supergay I guess.

Clubs were jungles way back! I was going to Hongdae as an 18-20 year old kid getting led around by 25 year old girls who were club vets. Nowadays everyone and their Sunday School teachers are out in Hongdae, Korean kids are getting adventurous. I am getting blown off by girls because I'm too old at 25, haha.

Dismal - despite my several failed attempts and you "making bacon", lets try to connect next weekend before you bounce to Japan. Getting rejected by girls because your 25 makes me a very sad man.

Sigh..it times like these when a scrubbing is needed.

Just want to note that Red Mango is AWESOME. I have yet to go to Pinkberry in L.A. but damn... that shit is great.

Also, my roommate has been particularly excited about the UNIQLO dry fits I've been purchasing him at the COEX here in Gangnam.

Looking forward to going out this weekend. Might do some touristy stuff, and rage in the evenings.

I know tonight we have a big dinner, but we're going out for drinks somewhere in Apkujung.

So far so good. Except that my APCs are starting to smell in this humidity. eek

There's also a UNIQLO located in the Lotte Department Store up north towards Myong Dong. The area in general is a good place to check out with just so-so shops but given that its in the heart of downtown Seoul, it should be a good spot to visit for your tourist needs.

Red mango. Classic.
