I have been to Florence in October. Its an amazing city. You have to go to "The Mall". There you have the Gucci Outlet, Ferragamo Outlet, Tods & Hogan Outlet, Sergio Rossi, Armani, and a few more. The place also has a nice bar/restaurant, which you need because its in the middle of nowhere. The Prada Outlet one also has to see. Its a bit away from the Mall. There they have Prada, Prada Sport, Miu Miu, Jil Sander and Helmut Lang. The building looks like a factory, so one does not suspect an outlet, but inside its very nice and they have loads of nice stuff for very low prices.

In Florence you have to eat at least once at a place calles "Il Latini". Best florentine food and atmosphere, but be prepared to stand in line 20 minutes, they do not take reservations. Florence downtown is full of nice shops, where they even customize vintage jeans to your needs. These places are not too hidden, so you should find them around the Duomo. Have fun, you`ll have a great time!!!

nothing to add on that, besides the village the MALL is located is called LECCIO close to REGELLO, 20 km away from florence

and the prada outlet - aka PELLETERI D'ITALIA factory is located in MONTEVIARCHI on the road to arezzo, 30 km away from firenze.

dont miss the LUISA VIA ROMA store - trendsetting store #1 in firenze.

also good outlets are close to milan: the dolce gabbana factory, and the FOXTOWN outlet center in the swiss-italian border region. in MENDRISIO. they got EVERYTHING 4 CHEAP.

especially if you go during saldi (sales) in january and june-july. i got pair of gucci shoes for 35 and a gucci jacket for 60 euros.

but a tip: rent yourelf a car and drive around - through toscana. magic landscape. pure beauty. get a little time-out and rest from eveyday hectic life.

it's been a while, but there are all sorts of little secret side shops that sell really really low-priced last season versions of great designer clothes (DKNY, Armani, etc.) i stayed at a hostel and the guy working the desk told gave me some side street tips.

the nightlife is GREAT, but you have to poke around a little. the squats especially... there are 4 or 5 huge squats, one of them in an old fort that looks like a medival castle.

for electronic music the blue cheese warehouse is nice.

Thinking about going to Italy solo and most likely doing the hostel thing. Although, I never do hostels, usually a hotel type you know? Anyway, I want to meet people, experience whatever city I land in, have a good trip, etc…but solo.

So…first off, what city for the 20-30 year old fun loving crowd where I can connect with foreigners, locals, other l like minded individuals? Then, maybe what hostel or even hotel to stay at?

I’m not trying to find ‘dope sneaker spots’… I’m trying to experience italy.

ANY help would be very much appreciated…

Florence has a young crowd but they are mostly students studying abroad. Its cool but kinda watered down Italian culture. I loved Rome! Dind't think I was going to enjoy it b/c it was such a big city but was more true Italian.

In the south I enjoyed Sorrento. Not a crazy town but one of the coolest clubs I've been to as far as style is concerned. Carved into the side of a hill so it's like a huge cave that's 4 stories.

Depending on when you are going you might want to book ahead of time.

I don't have my book with me but will get back as far as hostels i stayed and enjoyed.

Have a blast.

Hey all,

I'm travelling to Milan for a couple of weeks and then will be based in Florence for about 3 months. Wondering if people can tell me some good streetwear/other casualwear shops there are? looking for stores stocking stuff like BAPE, and other such labels... stuff that is more euro-exclusive to compliment my new nudie jeans!

Also, if anyone knows a place that stocks WESC clothing in these cities, i'd love to get my hands on some, as it's expensive and hard-to-find at home in Melbourne.

Thanks guys

Mike

Slamjam! in Milan is the only place in Italy that stocks NBDH, Visvim, etc. to my knowledge.

Either way, check the city info. pages; that is what this site was made for:

I stayed in Firenze for a week a short time ago, also on my own, it's known in Italy as the "closed" city meaning it's inhabitants are not open to foreigners. It can be pretty crowded, not as much as Venice, but close.

The area around Firenze though is a must see, especially the small cities of Siena and Lucca, and to the seaside (Viareggio, Forte De Marmi), where you can catch a little bit of the old glamour of Italy's luxurious holiday sites, like art - deco casinos, Grand Hotels, and the likes. Also crowded in August (when Italians are having school break).

Also, to the north of "La Versilia" you have to see La Spezia, and the beautiful sights of "Cinque Terre" (this is defo a must-see).

If you go further north, Genova is a cool city which is not well enough known, it's a funky place not very tourism-oriented, I rate it only second to Rome of Italy's cool cities.

If you can, make the jump over to Sardegna, which is great for relaxing on the beach (in the south or west) or going posh on the eastern "Costa Smeralda" (not recommended - too many tossers there, you got a good chance of bumping into Victoria Beckham there).

For shopping, Milan is the cream of the crop, alongside with Rome. Don't expect any good stores in smaller cities like Firenze, it's all Versace, Prada, Missoni, and the likes there with very little smaller labels on sale.

I have never really been further south than Rome, but there's many cool places there as well.

Northern Italy...outside of Milan, the lake district

Lago Maggiore is absolutely beautiful, check out isola bella

Lago di Como is charming, too, but the city of Como is nasty industrial. you can check out the original Bellagio on Como, tho.

Cinque Terra, yes, gorgeous.

skip pisa, or just go for a day. the only site worth seeing is the tower that leans.

near, Verona, Venice, Vicenza?? Check out Marostica where the life sized chess game is played once every 10 years. a beatiful, beautiful piazza. walk up the hillside to the castle/restaurant on top. visit Vicenza and the teatro olimpico

..........that's it off the top of my head, ciao!

fuckin' right i'm a doctor

hi mate.

If I were you I would visit for sure this cities, from north to south: bologna, ferrara, venezia, roma.

Milano is a large city and not really exciting, Firenze is plenty with tons of tourists and very hot in summer.

Bologna is full of italian youth, it's full of interesting events, you CAN'T MISS Venezia cause for sure you've never seen anything like that, ferrara is an historical town with beautiful "MURA" (aka medioeval walls) and there's the Slam jam Store in the centre, Roma is wonderful and you can eat the original and unbeatable bucatini all'amatriciana and spaghetti alla carbonara.

Stay well, enjoy and if you need any other info I'll give you.

ciao,

m

I'd like to save myself

I'm heading to Italy in about two weeks, and so I figured I'd make a post.

I don't expect to get much having searched the other threads pertaining to similiar areas, but I was wondering if anyone knows of any good outlet stores / markets / vintage shops etc... for mens clothing in Rome or Florence?

Thanks!
