Anyone from S. Carolina? Shopping help

I'm from Charlotte, went to school in Columbia, live in Greenville and am probably moving to Charleston. Like everyone has said Charlotte has a few things and Charleston almost does. Greenville and Columbia have nothing. Greenville is ok though, I much prefer Charlotte and Charleston to it, but it's a short drive to Athens and Asheville for good music and Charlotte, Charleston and Atlanta are all within about 2.5 hours. There isn't much style in Greenville, at least on dudes. At the ad agency where I work you aren't going to get much more cutting edge than one of our art director's wearing Zathan's, and that's out of almost 200 people. I don't even bother bringing up clothes to people I work with even though some 35 year old fat lady I work with tried to tell me how stylish she was last week.

Also, for about 2 weeks, Neiman Marcus in Charlotte was carrying Nudie, but I think they sold litterally 0 pairs and sent them all back.

Bzar blows. I live a few blocks from it, and I am always disappointed. They act like Nudies are magic. I've been trying to talk them into buying some decent 5EPs or R&Bs, but I don't know if it's going to happen. They have very flashy shoes and some rather loud hoodies. The couple who own it seem very nice, however. 52.5 is a really nice record store that lifts my spirits every time I set foot in it. There is also some wine shop that everybody has been raving about slightly north of Bzar and 52.5 on King. M. Dumas and Sons has a crappy selection of washed ES and PDC, but every now and then they'll be discounted by literally 80%. They also have clarks, sperry, etc. It's not that bad. There's an American Apparel, a very nice Ralph Lauren store, and a Ben Silver. The best part of Charleston is the food. Holy shit are the restaurants ever top-notch. Like most cities, you just have to know where to go. None of that Market Street nonsense. The weather and scenery is also great. Whoever deemed it 'aesthetically pleasing' hit it right on the head. It's gorgeous everywhere you go. We also have the largest suspension bridge in the western hemisphere.

Nice place for some coffee and relaxation: Kudu Coffee

Breakfast: Hominey Grill, Rutledge Coffee and Cream

Lunch: 39 Rue de Jean (fancy), Andolini's (amazing pizza), Gaulart & Maulclet, Lana (waitress named Jafa is really sweet)

Dinner: FIG, Raval, S.N.O.B, High Cotton or La Fourchette

yes yes, dooo go to hominey grill...there grits are all sorts of amazing..and there chocolate pudding is unreal...and one of really good friends stephanie is server there, go there and be nice to her.

meretiage is pretty good too, tapas resturant...ummm, basil is a pretty good thai resturant you should look into.

...and bazar, not so good. really nice couple with a cute dog, and thats about it...they sell vinyl toys as well if anyone is interested. just kid robot stuff really.

wheres the record store you mentioned justinbaily21 ?

Have to agree. The shrimp and grits at Hominy are ridiculous. They also happen to employ the woman who seems to make every cake in the Charleston area (sounds weird, but it's true). She does a damn fine job. I'm thinking about working their because of the server dress code, but we'll see.

52.5 is on Upper King about a block away from Bzar. The have free coffee in the back, a very nice selection of books, etc. The owner seems to treat you differently depending on how you look. One day I went in their dressed in khakis and a polo, and was treated semi-badly. The day after, I went in in Samurais, and iron and wine shirt, a beat up hoodie, an untanned belt and Vans. The service was excellent, and the guy hooked me up with some free posters. I don't really blame him, though. http://www.corporaterocksucks.com/

Basil is definitely a great Thai place. Fairly priced and the food is very good. Somewhere else that's maybe my favorite go-to restaurant in the Charleston area is actually over the Ashley River. It's called "The Mustard Seed" and is located in a trailer by the side of the road. The food is fucking superb and the prices are insanely low. I don't really understand the economics of the place. I guess it doesn't take much to keep the place up and running, so the savings get passed onto the patrons. Go there.

There are dozens of art galleries scattered all over the place. Can anyone recommend one? I'm trying to get some decent paintings for my room next year and I'd rather not waste time in one devoted to "Dog Art Through The Ages."

One of my friends used to work in a gallery while she was at C of C. I don't remember what it was called, but it was near The Market.

Village Tavern and the Map Room have gotten some legit bands as of lately (Matt and Kim, Mono, Sunset Rubdown, Great Lake Swimmers)

Also, on the shopping front, there's apparently a store on King that sells women's Rag&Bone
