p&b leather is of better quality and the silhouette/shape is much better in my opinion.

p&bs are easily told by the insole construction. if there's a removable one like a pair of dunks, it's newer. the old p&bs have a perforated, fixed 3/4 insole and the boots are often lined with pigskin.

I am pretty sure the ones you posted a pic of is not by p&b. the box they are standing on has been used for both irish and asian made shoes though so there is no chance on determinate their origin based solely on that exact box. I don't think these look irish though but i guess it's best to wait for R&S to have his say before we conclude with anything

as far as i know p&b never made wallabees in oiled leather like those, plus the toebox looks too tall/high...the irish ones generally look lower profile

clarks (the newer, made in vietnam kind) or the j.crew (made in italy) ones

seeing as they're about the same price on ebay, which would you choose?

I'm thinking about going for the j.crew ones because they look identical and are made in italy?

I have the jcrew ones - quaility is marginally better than the viet-clarks, but for me it was the lower profile and all around better shape that was the selling point.

^^^no, they closed their factory around 2001 or so and have been out of business since then, which is why the shoes are generally hard to find...i don't think you'd have much more luck in ireland.

In the UK/Ireland Clarks is a big chain with a very "old person" image. It was where I always got my cheap shitty school shoes when I was a kid. Seems to be more fashionable in the US. But anyway you wouldn't be able to find P&B in the chain stores.

I have Chinese made wallabee's and the desert boots. Granted they are not as good as the irish made, but still pretty good.

dude one of my biggest regrets in life is not picking up like 15 pairs of those mu'fuckers. i even went relatively late and there were still a bunch sitting around. matter of fact, there was probably a ton of hot shit laying around that i didn't have the patience to sift through.
